      It's a Gen 1 SBC based on a 4.125 bore Bow-Tie Sportsman block wearing 218cc CNC-ported Canfield heads.

Sweet! That's exactly how I'd do a 3rd gen too and I've been fantasizing about one of them for a while now. Was it hard to find a non T-Top car? Very cool! Keep progress posted!

Looks great. I have a '85 Trans Am that I'm working on, along the lines of a roadrace/PT setup as well. The Japanese have created some purpose-built racing Camaros (Grace Hardcore Racing and Advance Auto Ltd. come to mind) so you might want to check those out.

      Super Kev,

Thanks for the links. . .the one from Grace Hardcore has pretty cool stuff on it. . .I especially liked the pic's of the front underbody ducting. . .I'm seriously considering this kind of stuff for my '67 Firebird Project. . .so I appreciate all the pictures that I can find of "real world" cars with aerodynamics added on instead of just seeing what's on the exotics and trying to figure out how to apply what's been done there to my car. . .I'm thinking of making a 3-4 piece underbody tray to completely smooth the underside of my 'Bird. . .removable so that I can service it. . .attach it with some of the 1/4 turn flush mounted Dzu's fasteners and I would be set. . .shouldn't be too horrible hard to do since I won't have anything protruding under the car. . .everything going to be tucked up nice and close. . .gonna use a AME Max-G musclecar frame so even the exhaust and driveshaft won't hang out any at all.

      Thanks again,
      '67 Pontiac Firebird 400 RA

Neil B, good luck with your project. Personally, I hope you keep the site updated on your progress. I have a '91 Z28 coupe taking up space in the garage. Looking at your rendering...well, I'm reconsidering the sale of it.

Very cool! I always liked the third-gen F-bodies. My uncle had an '83 Trans Am, and my sister drove an '87 Iroc (may be wrong on the year), both had T-tops. Nice cars. I did a drawing of an idea for an Oldsmobile version of the third-gen, maybe one day I will have to build it.

      Good luck on the build!

Jason, I was just looking at your Maverick in PHR thinking how cool it was and how many of the same styling cues it has. Thanks for the kind words. Non T-Top 3rd Gens are definitely out there but are not as common. The T-Top cars are very prone to rust in the channels and these cars really need the rigidity of the roof. Almost every hardtop car I've seen has a crack at the top of the driver's side window where the roof meets the quarter panel.

I wonder what happened with this build, as the original post was back in 2007

Wow, what a great design. The fabricated front spoiler with the additional air duct looks killer! I'll be watching as this one comes together, it's similar to the ideas that I have for my 3rd gen.
