      Crank Position Relearn

I had a 1336 code pop up earlier this week. Went to try and get my crank position relearn done today but couldn't get anything accomplished. The car was reading on the laptop that it was doing 1-2MPH when revved when it clearly isn't moving. Unplugged the VSS to kill all signal and it still could not run the relearn. I'm assuming it might be because the PCM doesn't know the car is in "Park" as I don't have a late model park/neutral position switch hooked up. Is this needed or do I have another problem elsewhere? On another board someone also said they had to have the parking brake applied before the learn would take place. How the heck do I indicate to the PCM that the brake is applied? Isn't that through the old donor cars BCM - now long gone? Heres some guidelines I found that also say I need a parking brake depressed.

"Open the scanner, pick displays, VCM controls:

CASE Learn: To use the CASE learn function please follow these steps:

      1. Put the vehicle into park (auto) or neutral (manual).
      2. Turn off all accessories and A/C.
      3. Apply the parking brake.
      4. Press the brake pedal. Keep the brake pedal depressed during the entire procedure.
      5. Press Begin.
      6. Gradually rev the vehicle to fuel cutoff (around 4000-5000 RPM's) over a period of about 4 seconds. When fuel cuts out, immediately release the throttle.
      7. Allow the engine to come back to an idle.
      8. Turn the ignition off for at least 15 seconds. This step is required for the VCM to store the newly learned configuration."

So how might I trick the PCM into thinking the parking brake is on? Or am I SOL? This engine is great - but the occasional issue sthat pop up are a serious PITA.

The vehicle needs to be up to operating temp first (above 132 i think). What scanner are you using, some do not have the ability to preform the relearn. If you have a friend with a TechII it will take care of it.

hi, the coolant temp has to be above 150 f to run a relearn procedure.the condtions to set a 1336 is when crankshaft variation values are not stored in pcm memory. if you do a relearn and cycle the key and restart vehicle and code comes back check battery power for pcm not key on power. that code is usally a bad pcm. do to this code not being a variation or correlation error its memory error.hope this helps

The transmission is what tells the PCM that park is the current gear, the BCM relays the Park brake info.

Ive never done this procedure with anything other than a Tech2.
As far as I know its not a normal function of the ECM you actually have to have a scan tool that can engage this mode. ie: its not a self learning parameter.
