Mustang Gears
Anyone have any recommendations for improving highway driving on a 72 mustang mach 1? Currently mostly stock, so I am looking to learn what people have done that they found worked well.

03-28-2007 #23.25 gears and a Truetrac would be nice. What exactly are you wanting from the car?

I am looking to build a driver that I can take long distance as easily as short. Probably will never race it. Thanks for the input.
03-29-2007 #4The 3.25 was standard in the GT and GTA in the '60s. Pretty good all around. If you want to be on the highway more than anything else then you might want to go with the 3.00.

03-29-2007 #5Consider doing a combination of a moderate gear (like a 3.50 or 3.73) with an overdrive transmission (like an AOD or AODE if you want an auto, or a T-5 for a manual). That way you get the benefits of the steeper rear gear for launching your "bigger" Mustang and the benefits of the overdrive to save rpms and mileage while cruising on the highway.
