      door alignment

has anyone had any trouble aligning doors on a 1969 camaro ,it seems to me that the lower front of my door should be flush with my rocker. is this correct? i have the door adjusted all the way out on the bottom and can still see more than 1/8 inch of the top of the rocker panel, is this normal? if not how do i get the door out more? its adjusted as far as it goes. the doors and rocker are factory!

The doors are a pain in the a$$, but are you adjusting both the hinge to door bolts and the hinge to body bolts? Between the two you should be able to get it back to stock gaps...

First of all is it a convertible or a coupe? If it is a convertible I would thank your lucky stars you even got it that close!!

If it is a coupe I wouldnt worry too much about it. First off most of these cars didnt line up all that perfect even from the factory compared to cars today, secondly after over 40 years you gotta expect a little distortion here and there. Believe me you are probably the only one that is gonna notice. I bet if you showed it to 10 people and didnt tell them anything, they wouldnt even notice it. Funny thing about having your own car, you tend to notice every little frigin thing others would call you crazy for...

ive adjusted at both hinge points, its all the way out. this is a coupe! should i use some kind of shim behind the lower hinge or try to modify the door where the hinge bolts to ?

These cars had terrible fit and finish from the factory. I bought mine a decade ago from a guy who had really good bodywork done to it. A lot of old timers at exhaust and transmission shops knew right away that it had been done because the gaps were too nice. And that was from 5-10 feet away.

The best advice is to line up the top rear of the door to the quarter, set the back gap evenly to the quarter and you should be good to go. Is that what you have done?

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

Some of the aftermarket rockers have a 3/8 too wide of a gap.
