      Newb indecisive

I need your experience to make my decision! Hey think of it this way, Im letting you spend my $.

Im the same one that posted the NEWB curious about ebay price. OK. I still love that car, but some detailed shots have scared me with paint cracks, runs, etc. So its been 2 months, still studying.

Question: in your opinions, Ive found another car:
      http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/...ro/373566.html

Great stance, but just "bell tech" drop. At 38.5k for this one, am I better off just finding a 24-27k finished car and do suspension/wheels/etc myself?

I dont have time to do any body or interior. The car needs to be totally complete and fresh underneath. I just want to PT it as I go.

General thoughts please, and as Elvis said, Thank ya, thank ya very much

This looks like a way cool car on paper and in the photos but the only way to tell for sure is to go see it yourself. And if you're not up on the P/T menu, definitely take a couple of people along that are. They'll know what to look for, how the construction was done, the quality (or lack thereof) of the work, parts used, verification of what's listed on paper, and so forth. The fact that it's a '69 Camaro jumps the price a lot. Most any first or early second gen Camaro will be a very desirable P/T prospect and should increase in value in the next decade. If you want to get in on the bottom, look for the early second gen Camaros (1970-73) as being the next hot ticket.

Your question of how to spend your coin is a valid one and one that many of us have pondered. In a nutshell, it's usually less expensive to purchase an already completed car than it is to build one yourself. Even if you can do the lions share of the work yourself, to build one that is a quality piece such as what you see going thru auctions, etc., isn't cheap.

Purchasing a rough car or one that is partially built is difficult as you have to mentally figure out if the purchase price is a fair one plus what it's going to cost to finish the prep and build. Take that "prep and build" cost and then double it. It's the little things that add up the total bill. And there's LOTS of little things that the car will need.

And as you've probably been told . . . NEVER buy a car that you haven't personally seen. If the car's been repainted after the suspension and/or drivetrain mods were done, and you see runs, sags, and other paint imperfections . . . look elsewhere. If the paint has problems, what does that tell you about the quality of the other work?? If suspension/drivetrain mods are there but the paint is older or even OEM with some issues, that car might have possibilities.

      Good luck,

This car is very different from the car you first posted. This one has a dated engine combo that you will probably want to change. I see that we live in the same town. It will be hard to find a shop in this area to do a minitub or fabrication, so if that is something you want, get a car that has already had that done. I am working on two cars now, a 69 and 70 camaro if you want some ideas.

PSV, small world. Especially when we are from a small town. Didnt expect that. Now I've got to watch myself as sounding like an idiot wont be so innocent now.

Mpozzi. Thanks for the advice. It makes sense. Ive done the same thing with custom choppers, but hung that up, and moving to cars cause financially can finally try it. So I understand the "budget" thing x 2. And I never really thought about 2nd gen, but just today I ran across a sick silver 73 on lateralg.com (uh oh, is that allowed?) I am definitely looking at that option.

Restomod... Are you serious? What do you have? Ill go look at classifieds.

Thanks for all the good input.

      Mustang?

Are you set on a 69 Camaro? I know of a solid 65 mustang fastback in town that you could personalize to your liking. Its a stock older resto, but very straight. If I wasn't a Chevy die hard I would have it in my garage. Holler at me and let me know what your looking for, It'll be fun to spend your money and not mine for a change.
