im currently in the process of reskinning a 1969 camaro, im wondering if you guys have some pointers on welding. this is my first attempt and im getting better, but taking a long time. when i weld up my spot welds,(using a mig).. im stilll left with some indentions
after grinding. do i go back and lay more weld or fill in with filler ?

You can chase indentations in plug welds (MIG version of spot weld) for a long time, each time putting more heat into the panel. Heat is the enemy of straight panels, except when trying fix them.

If the welds are sound, (indentations just a fraction of the panel thickness) then I'd go with body filler if a perfectly smooth result is desired. For welds that can't be seen, I would prep, prime, and paint.

5/16 is the size reccomended by ICAR and is the industry standard.
