      Fed Up With Job

I have been at the same job for 12 years at a chevrolet dealer in fleet sales, had my best year last year and am tired of all the b.s. and politics of the work. I think what topped it the New car salesmanger who is the son in law of the president of the company went off on me for making to much money on a tahoe i sold to one of my accounts because I used a program from his department. He actually screammed at me and came towards me. I filed a creivance with the owner and nothing happened, so If I sued I'd loose my job.
I have been one of the top people in the industry for years and have run and built multi-million dollar companies over my life time. To take this kind of B.S. is an insult and to have nothing happen to this guy is just wrong. Time to do something else any idea's.

hey dude, you're not too far away from me.

I'm not sure where the sales skills can take you to be honest.

Obviously, you gotta do something you like doing, else any job would get to you over time. There's politics most everywhere, it's just that different managerial styles can shield you from it, or, dump it on ya. I'm sure you know that.

Is there a chance you can get a promotion to a position that is not under the son-in-law? I doubt you'd want to stay working under the son-in-law of the President. That'll never get better will it?!?

Maybe you can lead a different branch still in that same dealer? (hey, I'm trying to be positive!) I'm thinking of like Internet sales, the Bodyshop, processing the bulk of incoming cars from GM. Just guessin' here.

You wouldn't be at the Kings Automall would ya?

You could try regular car sales with a brand that gives you some passion about the cars. Lexus or Dodge maybe?

How 'bout hot tar roofing? I can start you out at $10.00/hr! LOL!!!

If you like what you do and make decent money, deal with it. IMO, it is not always better somewhere else! After 12 years, it can't be too bad or else you would have left before.

After being layed off on monday I realy dont want to hear a man making good money whining about some a$$ at work. Every place has them.
      With that said.

I would not get my panties in a wad but make a game out of it. Get this guys veins popping, keep filing GREIVENCES and when this dude hits you in anger one day Hit the ground and dont hit back and you will either own the dealership or own his ass for the rest of his life. Make sure you hit your head on the way down blood is good

Make sure you have copies of the filed greivences

Or you copy your contacts file from Outlook, grab your Rolodex (does anyone still have those?) and go across town to the Ford dealer. If you are THAT good, your customers will follow and you'll get your pound of flesh without resorting to anything scummy.

I hear what you are saying, and if I were in your position right now (as I have been in the past) I might have the same reaction. But the industry Xssesiv is in is small and incestuous in that people move from one place to another often. The right move would be to take the high road and simply move on and exact a small measure of revenge by continuing to be successful elsewhere. Taking the low road might be more gratifying in the short term, but won’t be forgotten by people who are witness to it. One of those people might someday be sitting across from him in an interview.

Whatever he does he has to sleep with. For a long time.

Well I think you found your answer within yourself whether you know it or not (HUH??) Let me explain...

You have a loyal customer base but not so loyal that they will change brands... You state that you are the top sales person in this dealership... With that said, I would burn a copy of your complete customer database(I mean customers you have dealt with not the companies in total) Then go Job Hunting with another Dealership that is the same brand in what you deal in.... Secure a position and resign on a friday, but before you do, be sure to send out a general email to all of your customers letting them know that you are taking a position at a new company and be sure to include all of your NEW contact information. This trick is done all the time with investment firms and other businesses who try to re-assign a new broker to accounts you work hard to establish. It is a page right out of Jerry Mcguire but it is the truth, thats how it happens. If you are that good at what you do two things are gonna happen.

      1. Your old boss is NOT gonna want to lose you
      2. Your NEW boss is gonna JUMP at the opportunity to get you!

Sounds like to me you have hit a point in your career where you may be better off moving on for the chance for more growth. Your current position doesnt seem to be offering that. Just my .02 CENTS GOOD LUCK

That's the first time I ever heard a dealer complain and get mad because someone made tooo much money on a sale.

I would be inclined to tell him that he can give money back to the customer anytime he wants as long as it isn't out of your pocket. If he has so much power he should be able to do it or the jealosy must be making him helpless.

Whatever you do, before you leave you need to start making a daily journal, putting all correspondences in writing both signed and dated or copy all emails to a disc everyday. It sounds like a lot of work but it is called CYA for a good reason. Things don't sound like they will get better until you find a way to put it in check.

The other important thing is to make sure you are at the root of a problem when talking about them instead of just circumstances that surround them. Sometimes it is the circumstances that cause the emotions to get out of hand and confuse what the problem really is.
It also sounds like someone took a dump in his ear and he heard your name in the sound it made getting filled. It sounds like he has a problem and blames you and the easiest way to make him feel useless is to ask him if there is anything you can do to help him with his problems. The more you are there to help him the more he will stay away unless he really wants to use you to blame everything on then the journal will be real handy later.

All in all I hope you get a better job and move up, do it before the storm starts and you still look good. Remember that it is also the same almost everywhere these days and it could be worse where you go

      Goodluck

Not here! But just think what you would be missing at McD's?!!? Hotter than hades in the summer, colder than crap in the winter, long hours, dirty, hard, dangerous, 500+ degree hot tar, open torches around you, everything you work on is under you (on your knees alot), lots of convicts to work with, etc.......
Actually, I would do this forever before working at a fast food joint with all the crap and idiots!

I think you should tell your boss that his son in law is trying to get you in the sack. That might get his attention.
