Drop Spindle Dilemma

First Off, I Have The Cpp 2 Inch Drop Spindles ON MY 70 NOVA, That Are One Piece, And You Cannot Put A Wheel With More Than Three Inches Of Backspacing On The Front Of The Car Due To The Rim Hitting The Outer Tie Rod. Does Anyone Know If Any Other Drop Spindles, Such As Heidts Or Ats Will Fix That Problem, Or Am I Going To Have To Go With A Stock Height Spindle And 2 Inch Lowering Springs?, Any Info Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

Our spindles are the only ones that will fix it. all the others are still a 2" drop spindle, while the AFX is a 7/8" drop.

I have a set of CPP spindles I bought for my 69 Camaro before I found Pro Touring. The spindles are the latest one's from CPP. They are made like the original spindle except with a 2 inch drop. I haven't installed them yet , but I did install my Touring Classics Hybrid C5 kit on the dropped spindles. The fit perfect. I had a TT2 17 inch wheel with a 4 inch BS bolted on and it. I still had more room left. After reading about the dropped spindles on this forum I will most likely sell them. I put 2 inch dropped springs and srock spindles on my 68 Camaro with the C5 hybrid kit.

I have http://www.superiorspindles.com/ on my 73. He sells a drop spindle that lets you convert over to 1LE IROC brakes and rotors. The tie rods are moved inboard from stock. I have bought a lot of their spindles and everything they make is top quality.

You would have to contact them. I don't have any. I have been using them for about 8 years now. I think I got one of the first set. No problems in alignment and never had any issues driving with them.

A 70 Nova uses the same spindle and subframe as a first gen Camaro. These rear steer cars have the tie rod end VERY low, lower than the lower balljoint! This hangs the Tie rod end low enough to contact the edge of the rim on a 15" wheel. When a dropped version of this spindle is made, the tie rod end drops an additional 2" relative to the wheel and it causes contact with the sidewall, even with 17" wheels.

I have heard that Superior Spindles moves the tie rod end in, but we still have reports of this spindle causing problems.

I can't argue with any of that as I have a set of 15 inch tires with a groove left by the tie rod arm after I installed the spindles. I had to buy a custom set of rally wheels to fix it. Now my 18" wheels clear with no real issues but they are close to the rim but no where near the tire.
