      LS2 Cam advice needed

I am in the process of building my first LSX powerplant. I am taking a stock 05 GTO LS2, changing to L92 heads that will be ported, L76 intake and headers. It will be mostly for street use but I like a snotty cam and don't mind a little extra effort in driving a slightly wild setup. Also my target is in the upper 500 HP range. Comp Cams is recommending a 228-230 @ .050 , 571-573 cam. I was thinking I would need over a .600 lft to get where I think I want to go. All advice will be appreciated.

You can definetely run a bigger cam with the LS2 especially if you upped the compression with those L92 heads. I'm running a TSP 233/239 112 cam and it's around 600 lift. The car is very easy to drive in my opinion. Do some searches on www.ls1tech.com or give Texas Speed a call, they will know. Also, I'd suggest you run LT headers for optimum power.

Thanks for the info. I'll check over at LS1tech. So far I am having a bit of trouble finding someone making the headers I want. This engine is going in an Abody.

I agree a cam in the 230-234 range could work well in the engine. Look for a 110 or 112 LSA to keep the DCR up as well as around .600 lift should work well. As far as headers go if you didn't already know Hooker makes a set of LSX swap headers for A-bodies for about $500 or $600 for coated.

Thanks for your reply also Pete. I had not seen Hookers LSX/Abody headers. The last set of Hookers I bought fit terrible. Maybe they are getting better. It looks like I need the cam to fall into the 230s @ .050 with an LSA around 112 and lift in the lower 600s. Anybody with experience with Livernois? The cam used in the GM High Tech article on the LS2 build with L92s used their cam and the numbers were in this range.

I just got an 05 6.0L. Thats a 4.0"bore right? So, would those L92 heads and L96 intake fit it?

I threw the Hummer intake in the garbage today...Man its an ugly piece!!!

Yep, the L92 heads and L76 intake will work just fine on your LS2 short block.

I would check PVC and valve angle with the l92's if you have stock pistons. Also with the cc on the l92's unless you mill them they will most likely drop compression which is the opppiste direction that you want to go. I don't have the info in front of me but I want to say the l92's are 72cc chambers off the top of my head. Who is doing the port work. We get our heads from Richard at west cost cylinder heads and he is a great guy and will lead you in the right direction. I think you can go bigger on the cam as well if you want without problems. 230's on intake and 240's on exhaust if pvc checks out. Just double check everything before you start buying. L92's stuff is cheap and seems to make good power. Really helps if you have a stroker 400+ cubes though.

Trick flow heads seem to make good power as well along with richards ported edelbrocks so look into those options as well.
