New Mbr, '72 GTO, Broken Arrow, OK
Hey folks, what's up? I came accross mention of your site from the Performance Years Pontiac site. Let me say, great forum here. Well, For a brief history, I've had a lot of cool muscle cars in the past, collecting my first one when I was 15. Some of the greater ones worth mentioning include two '68 Charger R/Ts 440/4-speed/Dana cars, '70 GTX Air Grabber 440/Hemi Auto/Dana car, '70 RAIII 4-speed GTO, etc. I wish I had anyone of them today. Before anyone thinks I may have been a rich kid, let me say I lost track of how many jobs I worked to get those cars and that none of them were by any means perfect. lol But, I got into late-model performance when I was 20 years old, in 1990 with a Formula 350 and didn't really keep interest with the classics except for one of those '68s which I sold in 1999 ready for restoration. Anyway, with the selling of the Camaro SS in my sig. I gained an interest in the classics again and found an exceptional deal on a fairly unmolested, but preferibly-altered '72 Goat that wasn't too far from me. This was after looking at three poor examples of the breed in several other states.
Anyway, some of the cool things about the car are that it has minimal cancer rust. Infact the trunk, quarters and window areas are pretty much completely rust free. There are some small spots at the lower portion of each fender, which is practically a given with there cars. But, with exception of those spots, they're great, even the "dog legs". The only major rust is the driver's side rear floor pan. All the other floor pans are SOLID. This car has been sitting since '88. It was a factory undercoated car and the underside metal is practically perfect. The floor pan section that rusted, did so from the topside down.
The car need a complete suspension rebuild, as well as some body work from dents, surface rust and sun damage. It also needs exhaust and interior work as well.
One of the coolest aspects to the car is that when I purchased it was that it was no longer powered by the original 250-hp 400, but an original 370-hp 4-bolt main 428. As well as having the original PK-code th400 trans that was placed behind 400-cube engines, replaced with a '70 PR-code th400 which was reserved for 455 cars, as so I've been informed. Pretty cool features if your not a number's matching enthusiast, and plan on "restifing" a car.
Anyway. That's some breif details. Hope everyone's having a blessed new year.
God Bless
Abe
Since I keep getting an error when I try to upload pics, I'll include a link to a webshots page that has over a hundred pics from when I found the car, brought it home and when through it for any who want to see.. http://community.webshots.com/user/nyracer
Abe. New Yorker livin' it up in Tulsa...
2007 TorRed SRT-8 Charger. SRT Opt I, III and Sunroof is the factory stuff. It's also enhanced with Magnaflow cats, and Zoomers cat-back. But, there's also an AFE STG II intake, Predator programmer, 180-Stat and GSM intake spacers waiting to go on very soon.
1971 Lucerne Blue GTO. It was originally LimeKist Green, with a 400 and M21 4-speed, but now, along with the color change, it packs a modded 455HO and M22 Rockcrusher trans. Gotta love the Classics.
