      Yellow

I need a good yellow for my 72 Challenger, which is a full on pro-tourer ready for paint. Right now I'm going with an original FY1 but I am not stuck on a stock color. If you guys could post some pics and codes/names that'd be awesome. Thanks in advance.

My brother went with 06 Mustang yellow on his 74 Road Runner. I think its a pretty sharp looking yellow, not too bright or pastel looking.

      Try this link for pics:

What kind of paint are you going to use? BC/CC will give you different characteristics to work with than if you use acrylic enamel. Certain tones can be achieved with the BC/CC that can't be done with acrylic enamel.
Fading is something that will happen in most yellows so going brighter to start usually doesn't hurt. You also get used to seeing certain yellows on certain cars and when you put a different one on that isn't stock it will be noticable to people. Staying with the stock yellow that Mopars use will look more right, but if you want it to bug people and get a different look you can go with something different.

I used acrylic enamel and put on 1975-1978 Corvette bright Yellow on my car. It is the brightest yellow I could find after a lot of testing. If you go BC/CC Ford has a yellow that they put on their pickups that is brighter and I think it would be more fade resistant. The thing you get with bc/cc is that you can tint the clearcoat to enhance the base and if you get creative you could come up with something with a lot of depth a different look in certain lighting.

Have fun because the samples never look the same on the car because a whole lot of yellow can really scream at your eyes even when it's not bright.

I went with a viper yellow on the 56' chevy in my sig. It's a daily/weekend toy we didn't really want to worry about too much...also much easier to touch up ...

Pure yellow tint base, truck was painted with a white base.
      It's very bright!
The flames will create an awesome reflection on the side of the hood with just the right lighting.

I used the DP90 epoxy primer in white. It makes it a lot brighter and if you color sand it makes it a bit more forgiving if it gets thin. I had my camaro painted in laquer years ago with grey primer underneath it and it started to get a greenish look to it after years of polishing it and getting thin. White is the way to go for a base!!!

Chrome yellow has always been a popular color. Problem is different paint companys have different names for each color.

My El Camino is painted with 96 Ford Probe yellow, BC/CC. It's a one year only color and to spice it up we added gold pearl to the second clear coat followed by 6 more clear coats. To brighten it up we used a white sealer coat.

Looking back, I wish we had used more of the gold pearl because the only time you can really see it is when the car is wet, otherwise the light has to be just right.

The truck was painted white before it was painted yellow.
The yellow tint base is what they start with when they mix a yellow color, ie Corvette Yellow may have some red tints mixed in it.

Thanks guys for all the info...some of those colors are real sharp. What I think I'm gonna do is go with chroma (used on my dads car with phenomenal results) for sure with a white base and factory yellow.
