      Spindle Seal????

I was cleaning my spindles this evening in prep for drum->disc conversion and noticed a 'seal' that goes on prior to the hub. In the pic below it was located in the area designated in red. I've also attached a pic of the 'seals' I pulled off.

They're made out of some sort of gasket material, not metal. I was almost ready to reinstall the hubs and now I don't know if these need to be replaced or if they're even needed at all.

-Has anyone ever come across these on their car?
      -What are their purpose?
-Do I need to replace them? If so, what are they called and where can I find them?

      Thanks,
      Dan

Throw them away. Not nesessary, kind of an extra dust seal. You have to remember what kind of seals that GM used to use during the 70's-80's. Most newer seals are twin lip seals with the lips facing away from each other. One for grease retention and the other for dust/debris/element barrier.
