      Anyone...300z help needed

Hi. My son is now using my daily driver due to this problem 300z nissan non turbo.....The car drove as normal to work. After work when he tried to start the car... He, when turned on the ignition, car starts then dies. Fuel problem? I cant find the correct fuse or relay to check the pump. Its not priming right. When I removed the fuel line, he tried to start the car.... I dont get any real fuel pushing out. It looks like mine would flow w/ a mechanical pump.. He ran the codes..... nothing ... What would be the word on the duse diagram that might be right. ie,, ignition, radio, heat,?????? This post is just a shot in the dark, Im on 300z sites now trying to figure this out.. We didnt need this w/ the holidays and all.. well thanks anyway... phil

Surprised you didn't already get a few responses.

I had a similar problem ~10 years ago.. don't ask me which car it was in because I don't remember. The car would start and run for a few seconds, but then die again. We found that the wiring to the fuel pump was damaged, but when the car was cranking it used a different set of wires to send power to the pump -- so that it'd run briefly before dying.

So... do you have power to the pump?

yep, sounds like a fuel pump issue...you should change your filters more frequently. wait , what year?

      1992 nisson 300z troubles.

I researched some more and the general consensus ,remember this info is "foreign" ie "rice" so at best its an interpation. is that the two alarm systems, one from the factory and the other aftermarket, are preventing me to even now getting to turn on the ignition due to horns and lights and stuff going off. I will try to disarm or remove both alarms so I can get the car to at least attempt to start. then I will look into the fuel pump, via fuses, relays and wiring. thanks to all for any feedback.. phil

Your alarm issues might be due to low battery voltage from cranking or a drain. For the start and die problem, Nissan used to have a five-second fuel pump "run" time during the engine crank mode, or "start" mode on the key switch to pressurize the system. Once the key returned to "On" or "Run," the pump stayed operational and the engine continued to run. This was controlled either by the ECU or a separate fuel pump relay.

EFI system pressures on a naturally aspirated (non-turbo) Nissan engine are about 36-45 psi, give or take depending on engine load. To check pressures, you'll need EFI pressure gauges and access T's. You might want to have someone that has necessary tools and diagnostic equipment go at it. They'll charge for diagnosis but you can then do the repairs.

If someone has access to AllData (I do at work but not at home), they can send you wiring diagrams for your Z. They'll need year of the 300Z as well.

      Good luck!!

Yes, it's Mary with a "y." There's estrogen involved. Definitely let us know what you found. If I remember correctly, this EFI system is LH-Jetronic (meaning it has a hot-wire AFM) and still uses the fuel pump relay.
