      I ditched Directv

After two of my 5 year old Directv recievers quit working and was told a week to get a service tech out to look at it and the fact I'd have to pay for new recievers. We called Dish Network had all new stuff next day, free, Got some kinda Tivo stuff with it I haven't figured out yet.
Now I get to watch V8TV and still have that stupid Nascar, Barrett Jackson commercial channel (Speed) that occasionally has a superbike or F1 race on it. A bunch more other channels and saved 20 bucks a month. They even have erotic shopping on later at night for adult toys that my wife would never ever let me use on her, maybe my mistress though. Of course I never have any time to watch tv or play with a mistress.

Interesting....I just ditched Dish Network and signed on with DirectTV. Dish Network kept charging movies to my house when we weren't ordering them. I tried to tell them that nobody is home at 1 O'clock in the afternoon during the week and nobody has a key to our house. But the refused to remove the charges and basically called me a liar. They wouldn't even send someone out to inspect to the box to see if something was wrong. They did it to me on 3 different bills. So I called them and said, "You've stolen enough money from me, come and get your dish off my roof". Then the lady says, "Well...we'll be sending you out some boxes. What you need to do is pack up all the equipment in the boxes we send to you and send them back to us". I told her she must be kidding and that she could stick those boxes up that bag of cottage cheese she calls an ass.

Hope you have better luck with those crooks, Jeff.

I too went from Dish to DirectTV. The trees around me grew up enough that I lost signal and the DirectTV sattelite is higher in the sky. Mine's worked fine for several years.

I had too many issues with trees and went back to cable, but they all suck. Service calls are a nightmare, I actually thought it would make an interesting experiment to videotape a series of service calls and edit them together.

One guy came in on a rainy day and stood on the bed with wet boots, even got footprints on the pillows.

One guy held the signal tester up to the window next to the tv and said "sorry, no signal" and left.

One guy, who was the most competent of the bunch, told me the hot chick across the street flirted with him while her county cop boyfriend was in the house. Then She called him while he was still at my house and invited him over for lunch, his van was there when I left a few hours later.

One guy tried to run 3/8 lag bolts into beams with a dead kmart drill, I went up on the roof and used my milwaukee, explained predrilling to him. The best part is, my leg was in a cast at the time.

Ummm, What the heck do you have above your bed to require the tv guy to get on top of it!??! And, please tell me that you were not home when this happened, If I were home and saw that, there would be more things than just the tv not working!

He had to run a cable across the attic and drop into the bedroom. First he was about to run forty feet of cable throughout the apartment, untill I suggested using the attic.

I was home and on crutches, I explianed to the guy as best I could that most people would be calling to complain AT BEST, but he was a nice guy with not much upstairs. It was so over the top I could not even get mad, just happy to be done with it.

I had Dish Network for about 4 LONG years and always seem to have issues with dropping reception and I don't have one tree in sight..... They always seemed to take time to trouble-shoot the issues for the first year and in the 13th month it was either the weather or my box was malfunctioning and conveniently out of warranty.

I finallt had it and called them to cancel and switch to Direct TV. They really wanted to keep me, but could not match what Direct was offering me to sign up. I really did'nt want to switch, but man am I glad I did!!!!

Three years now and only had to call them once... it was this past weekend and I thought that they would pull the same crap since the box was out of warranty...... nope helped me in a few minutes.

I started with Dish Network and had little to no problems but switched to cable because of the package they offered with cable internet....problems with DSL. Cable company pissed me off now with adding their phone service...so cancelled cable but left the internet and phone with them for the time being. Have Direct TV now, like it so far, only have had it less than 5 hours....Pray for us, wife is tired of me getting pissed and switching companies.
