      Power Tour 2007...What To Expect?

Seeing the Power Tour leaves from Cleveland this June and I live in Cleveland I'm seriously considering doing it (actually I'm planning on it provided I can get the time off of work). I don't know anyone who's done this before and I know people on here have done it, so what goes on? Is the drive between shows like a Cannonball Run or is it more relaxed? And what goes on at the stops? The Hot Rod site didn't seem to offer much info on that sort of thing.

I'm asking because I'm hoping a few of my friends will want to join in as well, and I'm also using it as an excuse to get one of my best friends to finish his car in time for it (77 LeMans with a BUILT Buick 462). So what can I expect?

Do it! Do it! You won't regret it. How many times in life do you get the chance to roll down the road with thousands of other car nuts driving their own passions. It's basically a week long car show, but not the same cars over and over, since at each venue the local crowds show up with their rides as well. I've been on two PTs and will continue to go every year as long as possible.

For most, the drive between venues is relaxed. Of course there are always some that just have to get there first (Bill Howell ). I personally enjoyed following the provided routes, taking my time, enjoying the sites, smells, etc. I stopped for fuel more often than necessary just to talk with the other participants along the way. It's pretty cool seeing people along the sides of the road and on overpasses waving and taking photos of the cars as they pass.

The venues are a chance to visit the vendors, see the 'show' cars (which are also being driven from venue to venue) and depending on the place see and participate in some racing activities and/or dyno runs. Depending on where you stay, the evening can be filled with additional conversation with all kinds of nice people as well.

It's a great vacation and I highly recommend doing the 'long haul'.

I sure wish someone would have something like this on the west coast.

A coast to coast power tour would be perfect. I hate that it was so close to me this year and next year it's going to be so far away.

It could be worse, say, Newfoundland to British Columbia.

I know it wasn't exactly what you asked about, but here's a thread that talks about all the stuff you should bring with you on the Power Tour. Could be useful if you've never been:

You control your own pace to the next venues. You can plan your own side-trips and do whatever you want, such as a trip to Trepaniers or car museums. They normally have a lunch set-up midway and that can get really congested in and around it. It's a great time and if you have a problem, many stop to lend a hand. You meet alot of great people and thats really whats it's all about. One piece of advice.....bullet proof your cooling system. I'm picking it up in Wisconsin this year for a couple of days.

I am going. This will be my fourth Power Tour, and third long-haul.

Evansville, Indiana, that is where my red '69 lives with its new owner. Pretty cool, I might get to see my old car again.

I will be there again this year. It is nice to see the different venues and different cars every day. You will get to know other gearheads too. We had a blast with the group I ran with last year. Most days are not very hard/long so you can stop/tour/do your own thing.
      I refuse to comment on dhardison's comment....lol

Awesome. We need to get a big Michigan contingent to show up in Kalamazoo.

Unfortunately...no Camaro. Too much to do.

By the way...I screwed up, Kellogg's is in Battle Creek, not Kalamazoo. I always get those 2 cities confused. Battle Creek is Kellogg's, Kalamazoo is where Elvis lives. LOL!!!!

I'm still mad at Hot Rod for not starting in Englishtown. What happened to starting where the previous year left off?

I wanted to do it. We ran the PA to NJ leg last year and it was a hoot. Saw all the regulars from here. I will do it all one year, I just can't this year.

Well after seeing such positive reviews my mind is made up. I will make it my purpose in life to have my car modified and debugged by then! (shoudn't be too difficult, I think!) I'm hoping some of my friends can join along as it would be nice to have people that I can return home with.
