      Fuel pump speed controller

What do they do....lowers the voltage so it goes slower. If, is it possible to lower the voltage and have a switch for low and hi mode? And what voltage? I think Aeromotive's is a bit high priced..... any other make?

      Fuel Pump Controller

      Olav,

fuel pump controllers use a frequency to pulse the voltage to the pump. If you were to decrease the voltage instead, the amperage would increase and therefore burn out the motor, I would not consider doing that.

      Weldon Pump makes a controller:

Although I have never used the dialaflow, if it is anything like the rest of there product line (which I am quite familiar with), it should be a pretty nice piece.

If you would like to call Weldon Pump (440-232-2282) ask for Jim Craig. He is the man when it comes to fuel systems and I am sure he will give you all the information you are looking for.

The Weldon controller does not work on all pumps so check with them on your application. It would not work on the Bosch pumps on the Mule.

That is not correct. The resistance of the pump is fixed. Lowering the voltage does lower the supplied current. I = V/R

THe reason motor controllers use pwm instead of directly lowering the voltage is that it's both easier and more efficient that regulating voltage.

I use the Aeromotive pump controller to cut my pump speed (via pwm to take the duty cycle to 50%) in half under 2000rpm. It has helped my fuel heating problem. I got the unit used but in great shape for $140. New, they are like $279 which I'm not sure they are worth. They are pretty in the red billet case though, and they match the A1000.

I have heard that Walbro pumps do not like being slowed down. I can't comment on other pump designs.
