      1969 Firebird update

It's been a while but I'm ready to give an update.

This weekend I temporarily fitted the doors, fenders, upper valence, and hood to the car.

I haven't had much time to work on the car recently as college is winding down for me and I need to be focused on that.

As fortunte would have it though I've found a little extra money burning a hole in my pocket. So off to the body shop it goes.

The body panels are on for shipment. The car is actually being trucked down to my father's aircraft repair facility. Their on-site painter does hot-rods in his spare time, so he'll be finishing up the last of the body work and spraying the car.

At this point I don't even recall the actual name of the color I chose for the car. It is a black with a small amount of pearl/flint in the color. The mirrors will be colory keyed as well as the "beak."

The jury is still out on if I want to do something with the tail light panel. It's either going to be the same color as the rest of the car, or I might opt for flat black.

In recent weeks I've installed the American Grafitti AC delete box, as well as installing a new dash, engine, and headlight harness.

I'm hoping to have the car painted and back in my hands by around February. That gives me the next couple months to get everything else needed to finish the project on order. Wheels, suspension etc.

I'll be adding the camaro style front air damn as well as the tail fin spoiler.

Thanks. The progress feels really good after a long period of only minor work done on the car...or work that simply can't be seen.

I'm really hoping that the car is done being painted prior to February (the painter is slow right now so that is in my advantage) but I think we all know the reason it's called paint "prison."

I understand your pain (paint prison). My brother does paint and body work, he tells me it will be a while before I can get paint on my project. I'm waiting on brackets for my rear end and quarter panels. I hope to install it all in December - January then I can get the body work under way.

I'll watch for more post from you to keep my motivation going

Fortunately for me, the car won't be too far away that I won't be able to get work done on it at the same time.

My father's aircraft repair facility houses a full downdraft bake-oven paint booth, so the car will be there. Obviously because i'm the owner's son I have free roam of the place.
