      Wrecked it.

I really don't know what happened. Coming home from a friend's. Dead sober. Went to turn left and pull onto our bypass, just like I normally would, car went squirrely and I ended up off the road on top of charlie brown's christmas tree. Big gash in the hood, hole in the bumper, clutch is fried, popped a tire. My dad thinks I'm either drunk, high, or was trying to get sideways. I think something's f*cked in the rear suspension. Only injury is a bruised thumb.

This thanksgiving, I am thankful for: my guardian angel.

Edit: By the way, WEAR YOUR SEATBELT!! IT WILL SAVE YOUR ARSE WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT!!

Sorry to hear... and since these things happen in three's and you're the second, the question is who'll be the third...

nope, i posted as soon as i made it home. The car had been feeling wiggly for a few days before things went south, but I brushed it off as my imagination. Apparently this was a mistake.

Reminds me of something I did back when I was wrenching for a living. My helper had gone home early and the other mechanic at the shop had called in sick. Needless to say I was running wround like a chicken with my head cut off! So I did a front brake job on a customer's car, and he came to pick it up. Nothing too abnormal with this, yes? Well, while running around trying to keep up, I forgot to pump up the brakes on his car. Oops! Backed it out to road test it, pedal went to the floor, pump-pump-pump-bang! Backed right into the side of my 1980 Olds Cutlass! Ouch. Oh yeah, the customer watched in horror as it happened! I guess I don't have to mention that, though it was his first time to our shop, it was also his last. For some reason he never came back!

I feel your pain brother. Glad you were OK. A lot of us also forget that most performance tires do very poorly in the colder winter months. They just don't get warm enough and traction suffers greatly.

Sorry to hear it, bro. Thank God you're ok and still have a good attitude. Sounds like it can be fixed, it could always be a lot worse!

Sorry to hear about the car, but glad to hear you're ok.. Cars are just object that can be fixed or replaced, people can't be..

That's why I never bothered with wipers on Penny. With my tires I will avoid wet roads like the plague..

My Camaro will likely never see cold/wet conditions for just this reason. Glad to hear you are OK. Sucks to hear about the car. Post up some pics. It sounds like nothing that can't be easliy fixed.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?

Folks - always put those seatbelts on. Even if it is just for a trip around the block. I rolled a 67 camaro vert when I was 20, did a complete roll in the air, and landed back on the wheels. Walked out without a scratch. Without the seatbelt, the car probable would have landed on me.

I went on to work in the industry, and got to go to 8 complete, 3-sided crash tests. You don't realize how violent it is until you watch it over and over again on high speed digital video from every angle. Must people don't believe me, but a side impact is way more violent then a head on (at least on new vehicle with air bags).

Point is always buckle up - and put the wife and kids in something with side airbags.

I'm working on getting some pics up. Since it's a white car, it's tough to photograph the damage...white barbed wire scratches on white paint tend to become invisible.

It does look a lot better in the daytime, after the panic's worn off, though.

As a side note, I went back to check out the scene...apparently my car is a tank in disguise. I BROKE THROUGH the curb, then ripped through the fence, then completely uprooted the tree.

Also, I should mention that air ride kicked butt when getting out of there, lol. I couldn't move at all at first, but after putting the car into super-duper-mega-ground-clearance mode, I pulled right out.

Anybody got any opinions on what clutches to look at? I can't afford a mcleod right now, and was not happy with my centerforce dual friction.
