      vortec heads

Out of curiosity, Can I put vortec heads on a pre-80 sbc? I've got a strong block, and I want to modernize it, but I don't know much about newer engine components. Will they fit correctly?

Please go over to Second Generation Camaro Owners Group, (SGCOG) (MadMike's site), and check the top sticky in engines b/c there is more good Vortec info in it than you will care to take the time to read about..

      And read "Dirt's" posts too!

As well as Gary Penn's long reply..

You can run Vortec heads on an old block, but you need self aligning rocker arms, different intake[bolt pattern is different],and some center bolt valve covers

You can actually drill new bolt holes in the Vortec heads so you can bolt up an old style intake. My brother had it done to his Vortec heads so he could bolt on an Edelbrock Victor Jr intake.

I Am Running The Vortecs In My Sonoma With The Intake Re-drilled And It Ran A String Of 13.0's At The Track Today And 11.7-11.5 With A Little Nitrous. ALL OF THIS IS ON A 1979 "010" BLOCK.
