      Pinks Sucks

THIS SEASON WAS THE WORST SO FAR MANY OF THE RACES THERE WAS NO COMPETITION AT ALL, I WOULD HATE TO BE THE GUY WHO HAS TO SELL COMMERCIAL TIME FOR THIS SHOW SAYING HOW RIVETING IT IS WHEN ALL YOU SEE IS A BOUNCH OF IDIOTS ASKING FOR 5 TO 10 CAR LENGTHS, EXCEPT FOR WHEN THE 2 BROTHERS RACED IT WAS ALLFUL. I WOULD BE EMBARRESED TO ACT LIKE THAT ON NATIONAL TV. IT ACTUAL MAKES THE "CAR" COMMUNITY LOOK BAD, THE WAY THEY ACT. IT IS DEFINATILY NOT ON MY LIST FOR NEXT YEAR IF IT GETS RENEWED.

I'll abmit, I wasn't impressed with the show that much. I saw it a couple of times and everytime there was some racer acting like a 2 year old. Always crying about car lengths and what the other car was capable of over their own. I understand you don't want to give up all your info on how well your car performs. After all, it is a race, but stop with your incessant whining. There was more crying than racing in the shows I saw.

I agree, and each guy has like ten crybabies backing him up.

It should be the driver and 1 helper and thats it.

I don't understand the people that cgo on there and cry cause the other guy has a race car. If you don't have a race car wtf did you sign up for the show for!

HAVE YOU NOTICED THE QUALITY OF CARS ARE TERRIBLE NOW. THEY ARE BRINGING IN CARS THAT THE OWNER DOES NOT CAR IF IT IS LOST IN THE SHOW.

I've never liked the show, I've only watched it once when it first came on and knew it wasn't for me.

The show is a joke. They should just act like they are racing for pinks and get some decent cars on there.

My buddy was just on the episode that taped at Heartland Dragway in Topeka, KS. He ended up losing his Nova, he was not attached to it and the guy has already called him up wanting him to buy it back, at least that is what I am told.

I am not a fan of the show, did not even go out to the taping!

i went to the Pinks: ALL OUT at texas motorplex and that was the biggest joke i have ever witnessed. very unorginized and the final "street cars" were lexan windowed stripped out drag cars. i will never go to another pinks event. total waste of money.

i am ashamed they are portraying the car crowd as abounch of whinners and cheaters. boo. sorry for the rant

The 'problem' with Pinks is that it COULD be SO cool...

The basic premise is a good one, but it's not being followed through correctly. I'm sure a big part of that is the fact someone is going to lose their car. After all we put into our cars, it's not hard to see why we wouldn't be quick to put them up for this deal.

I think with a few tweaks, it could be cool. Don't run for Pinks, but run for money. Winner take all or whatever. Keep much of the format the same, and limit the competition to 'real' street cars (DOT tires, no wheelie bars, etc.) If they had a 'screening process' in place to pre-qualify the cars, it would make for a better show.

I'm also a firm believer that all 'first rounds' should be heads-up, period.

Some episodes have been better than others. I've really liked some of them...the guy in Florida who refused to take lengths given to him was really cool - "I only race heads-up" he kept saying, even though he kept losing.

There's also been some real sportsmanship displayed - some of the participants have really represented the sport well. Unfortunately, they seem to be in the minority, but it's cool when it happens.

With a little more work, it could be awesome. I'd love to take the wagon out, but I really don't want to lose it to some turbo 5.0 with a parachute. If it was just for money, winner take all, I think they'd get more guys like me who want to play their game but aren't willing to give up their car to do so. I don't mind the lengths and such, but I think the show could be done better.

Those guys that were racing are friends of mine. It was easy to say we only race heads up when you are not at risk of losing your $50K car. I have street / grudge raced with these same guys for years, believe me, when money is on the line, negotiations are completely different. BTW, there is no more street racing here now, it all happens at the track, which is a good thing!

What many do not undertand is Pinks is supposed to be like true street / grudge racing, well, sort of. The negotiation, argueing, crying, bitching, cheating, begging, scamming, are all part of the process of trying to assure your team of a win.

I have seen it get ugly. Seen people say things that would have, should have, and have, got their ass whipped.

Big difference on Pinks is the 3 or 5 race deal. In the real world very, VERY rarely will you see a second race, and it is never best 3 out of 5. It is, you want some more, lets re negotiate and go again.

As far as crap cars this years. I was thinking there were some pretty nice cars this year.

Frank is right on with the above from what Ive seen. Ive seen guys negotiate (more like whine/complain at times) for hours on end before theres a race. Ive seen ppl or groups of ppl have what Id call a free for all....fists, rocks, and anything else within reach were flying.

The only thing Id have to say pinks has completely wrong is the amount of ppl that get air time (especially the host) that come off as knowing absolutely zero about anything automotive or racing related. At times I wonder how some of these clowns even got their lic to drive since finding where the ign key goes would appear to be a challenge for them.

Doesnt matter to me much anyways since I only catch the show when theres nothing on Modern Marvels or How Its Made that I havent seen before.

      Well

Honestly I thought it was kind of hack as I use to street race loooonng time ago.
On that note so did my buddies here in Burns City, well Jamie (we call him Bear) got a 67 Firebird and got it in his head to call Pinks and heck the car got to shop for cage and the car got painted andd he had to move to Delaware for work and that kind of started the bust up, then they had lots of companies helping, but some locals never could get off thier duffs and his brother Mike was trying to do all of it and work a regular job too, and local garage that was in on it didnt let Mike in to work on it or help as much as they wanted.
Anyway the car got sold and Pinks got told to buzz off. This car was going to be a 30k+ car with a high dollar roundy round motor in it. Then when they were still in it the straw that broke the camels back was some doofus wanted to pair up a esencially restored and hot rodded 67Firebird against a mid 90's ex Mustang 5.0 car that was usedup (yes I saw the car ,what a pos. Guy was bragging he only had $3500 in car and it was an old worn out 347 on NOS and was going to take a great car home).
Kind of figured they would get set against a pile or a ringer. I agree the premise was good but the execusion sucked, but it was kind of fun. I saw the one with the datsun that broke and somefella had a Pro Gas Camaro to race and heck any decent drag racer could see the Camaro guy was sand bagging as he always kept looking over his shoulder. I think that was were he was racing a Astro van.Heck even that van had to borrow parts to finish.
I would like to see a show where they have 2 teams , regular guys who over show season (actually something like maybe a 3 to 6 month afair) build a car and get a budget for every stage. Points for good or bad idea/plan, and points for money spent. Also if you dont use it on out side you can use it on suspension. Make them either use a salvage yard car or used car lot or local used car thats for sle with cap on base purchase price and time limit to find one.
Maybe even have teams meet in Indy at IRP ir 500 track and decide weather to drag, or road track it or both and go over points scaleto be used, then go back to home towns and get started. 2 teams one final race.
Make it a total limit for car build and other than trading, bartering or selling old parts or recycling parts.
Just an idea , ya know kind of like junkyard wars with cars. Maybe even a salvage yard race too. Pick yards with diverse types of cars but similar. let them build out of yard but give them a budget for new parts, maybe get someone like BAER or SSBC to sponsor brakes, Simpson or RJS to sponsor safelty equipment.
      what ya all think ?

Just wanted to add my .02 worth
we were on the show taped in Seattle on Sept 23.
we brought our 69 Camaro built it in 3.5 week, ended up spending 25,000.00 plus all the sponsored parts and money and labor, must say it's ammmmazing how fast a car can come together when there ar 8 guys working on it!!!. any way we did it for the marketing no other reason, if we lost the car it was good exposure. but guess what we WON and now have 2 cars!! and now the marketing is huge so far
3 full page writ ups in the news paper.
20 min deal on the local sports tv show
2- 3 hour live interviews on the #1 local rock radio station.
and this is all prior to the show even airing.
once that happens we will do it all again, then in the spring the local track wants us to come and do another match race.
the Seattle Roadster show want us to bring both cars
the largest local car show want both cars, are you starting to see the cost/benefit equation.
so Rich told us NO BS No Jerry Springer or you will loose your car.
our race was wild all 5 races with 1 to 1.75 head start and MOV from 4 feet to 10 inches.
      10,000 people watching.
so as for the marketing well worth the effort.
as for the show..... i have to admit this season did leave a little to be desired.
