      Cruisin' the Coast

This year Cruisin' the Coast returns to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for it's 10th year of fun. Last year was supposed to be the decade year but as you may have heard the weather did not cooperate. Hurricane Katrina only post-poned it and could not kill it.
There are about 600 cars here for a weeks worth of poker runs, cruisin', drag races, and burnout contests. This event is usually hosted each night at a different venue, such as any one of the casinos that dot the coast and there is usually a thousand registered vehicles.
This year is a little different because the buisines' along US 90 are only slowly coming back and the road is in less than perfect shape.
This event has always been geared toward street rods through to the early 60's models. There are still alot of muscle cars and even three cars trying to campaign for the pro-touring camp.
I spoke with one of the owners and it was obvious these were posers. The way he explained it was that he just liked the stance. All three of the cars had bone stock brakes. One guy even had those silly wheel plates on his Chevelle, what gives? Don't get me wrong, I'm not hatin' because of brakes, I just realize these guys aren't in it for motorsports sake.

      Larger attendance

That figure for attendance would be 6,000 not 600. Maybe not this year but it would have been last year for sure. Most of the hotels and motels and eating establishments were demolished along the beach road which is Hwy. 90. There may not any real pro-touring cars this year, but my car is about 80% done and will be in attendance next year. It is a 69 Camaro and is a pro-tourer in every sense of the word

Here you have a really sweet tire cover on the continetal package of a 59 Impala and a rat rod wearing 20" wire wheels and G-force radials.

I'll be down Saturday (but not in my unfinished camaro ). In the past I've made it for most if not the entire week, but not this year. Just coming for the weekend to visit family and use that as an excuse to check out the cars!!

Glad to see you guys are back running cruisin the coast. I was in biloxi about 2 months ago. I was amazed at how much is still in shambles. I didn't even think the event would be going this year, so I never made reservations. Any places left to stay? I have a 69 camaro driver that I most likely will run over there in. I need my fix at the casino again. Probably could stay there if any rooms left. What are the dates this year?

It's going until Sat. but people will probably bug out Friday. Best guess on hotels would just be to call 'em. The Cruisin' website has an itenerary and possibly some phone #'s for accomedations.

We have been attending Cruisin' the Coast for the last 5yrs. I always looked forward hanging out for a week in Gulfport and Bay St. Louis. We will not make it this year. Hopefully next year.

The 65 Chevelle droptop in the first picture belongs to Ed Slade. He is a friend of ours that lives in Gulfport.

My wife used to work at a bar in the Bay, the road that had all the restraunts and bars on it washed away along with the bridge. We lived on the beach in Pass Christian pre-storm, all that is left is a concrete pad. The casinos bounced back nicely, they all got a much needed update. We need things like Cruisin and the casinos to come back and do well, so come on down next year.
