      C6 Z06 caliper questions

What size pistons do the C6 Z06 calipers have?

Does anyone have a template of them for mockup?

I don't have that info for you, but make sure you know what you are getting into with those calipers. They aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Not to say they wont work, in fact they'll work great, but there are other choices out there that may work better for you if you haven't already bought them yet (and I'm assuming you haven't).

Why is that? What are the downsides of them other than expensive pads?

Even though those calipers are of a "monoblock" design, they aren't as stiff as you might think. Performance Friction's 2-piece caliper is stiffer than the Corvette monoblock. Heck, they're 4-piston caliper outperforms the Z06 caliper in almost every way.

The worst thing about those calipers is the uneven pad wear. Since each pad moves seperately, they wear at different rates. This wouldn't be that big of a deal if the pads weren't $100 PER WHEEL, and the only compound available isn't very good. So at this point, you're stuck with a crummy pad compound that wont wear evenly.

I'm making this sound worse than it really is, but those are the downsides. If your car is going to see some heavy track duty, I'd SERIOUSLY consider different calipers. If it's a street/lapping day type deal, then they'll work great. And the price (minus pads) is right.

Template for mouting would be great. Im not sure if the z06's would clear my wheels or not. Front, and rears would be great. Im sure would help out a lot of members.

Definately food for thought. I remember a thread over at Corvette Forums where one of the first things Lou Ghilotti (of LG Motorsports) did to his new Z06 was to dump the stock calipers for a set of Stoptechs. At the time pad availability was his primary concern-- but he did mention pad wear and caliper flex as other reasons for the changeout.

I believe the pad compound availability issue is no longer an issue-- but correct me if I'm wrong.

Are the Z06 calipers good for stock? You bet. Are there better options out there? Yep. AP Racing, CNC Brakes, The Brake Man, Stoptech, etc, all come to mind. However you will pay more, and for hard street/casual track day abuse the C6 Z06 calipers will be plenty adequate.

I think that will help. Exact measurements mounted of course would be ideal, but any bit helps. I wonder how compareable they are to the 14" 6 piston set up from stoptech?

Even just putting the calipers on the rotors, it should give us an idea how far the calipers stick out from the mouting surface. On my 18's, inside measures 16 1/4, so roughly 8" from the centerpoint of the wheel. That should clear diameter wise.

Pictures showing the measurements would be fantastic as well.

Well I got them in, as best I can measure the pistons are about 1 1/4" however it was a bitch to get that ruler in there and get a point to go off of so dont do anything serious with those measurements.

Here is a pic of a square set on the face of the caliper, as you can see its pretty freakin huge, and the width is where the interference problems will arise unless you are trying to run 17" wheels...

Thanks a ton man. Any idea how much clearance diameter wise to clear the caliper? Looks like Im gonna need a slight spacer to clear the face. Looks to be 1 5/8" wide, and I've only got 1 9/16"
