what is the a good engine for turbos

i am looking to twin turbo my 70 trans am but i dont know what engine would be best small block chevy, big block chevy or an ls1.

i would say LS1, there are so many companies developing kits and parts for turbo LS1's, a lot of info too. The aluminum block and heads would off set the weight of the turbo system, and the heads alone are probably good enough to support that power.

on the other hand a small or big block chevy could probably be built stronger...and cheaper...

Hard not to agree with that logic!! If you don't have a engine to start with, thats another problem.
What would your power goals and fuel quality be?

right now i have a pontiac 400, 455, chevy 289

use the 400, destroke it, drop the compression to about 8:1...add boost, enjoy.

i havent been able to find any turbo headers that would fit the pontiac blocks has anyone seen any out there

Just use the engine you already have. You may need to do some internal work to handle the power if you plan on a lot. I'm currently setting up a twin turbo on my 69 Firebird with a 455 in it. The motor is an HO block blored .030 over, new steel crank, forged H beam rods, forged pistons, arp hardware. It currently has a set of #62's on top which will be changed over to set of 87cc edelbrock heads to reduce compression to a more boost friendly range. I am fabing turbo manifolds from the current headers I have and some stainless steel tubing. I would go this route, you keep the poncho heritage and it should be among the cheapest.
