Anyone have any info on the '63-'67 Corvette style kit cars, grand sport or other?

ERA replicas (www.erareplicas.com) had designed a kit for the Grand Sport a few years back and began selling them... but they had to shut down the project for some reason. That is the only kit version I ever heard about.

Its the same reason that other companies like D&D that used to make Grand Sport kits had to shut down.

Someone else picked it up and it was talked about in one of the mags not too long ago. I'll try to find it. Pricey, though.

I was looking at original ones and they were $40k minimum in the rag I was looking at.

Well I don't have $30k+for one of those. Maybe I could do my '67 notch mustang in that style with the wide flares and sidepipes. Its from the same era.

Anyone know much about the builder mongoose motorsports? How's the build quality, know of any performance reviews? I really like these.

Call Jeff Leach at Mid America Industries in Illinois. Jeff has been making Grand Sport replicas since 1980. No, not Mike Yeager's Mid America Corvette, but Jeff Leach's Mid America Corvette.

Jeff uses C2 bones/hulls and build cars from there. He built the first reproduction round tube Grand Sport Chassis in 1978.

There is another company out of Texas the also now makes replica Grand Sports. This company has recast many of the unique parts to this car and actually Vintage Races one of their replica's. It is fast like the original and weighs about 2300lbs.

Ok, I just spoke with Jeff at Mid America Industries and he emphasised that these are not kit cars like other replicas as they are built around the bird cage of a '63 to '67 donor vette. They are set up to use LSX blocks and 5 or 6 spd trannies and C4 compnents on the rolling chassis. They indded have a car competing in SCCA events and it does extremely well. He is sending me some information as if you select the link there is little info to go on and a single car to view. As well, he invited me out to the shop and being up the road I'll probably head out and do a comparison to the American Industries cars and 2 Mongoose Motorsports Grand Sports they have.
