      Rear axle vent

Last time I drove the car, I noticed a stain under the rear of the car. I looked underneath tonight and it seems like it was gear oil coming from the vent tube on the rear end housing. Is this normal? When I filled the rear, I used just enough oil to where it was coming out of the ends of the housing. It was a 5" diameter stain, so maybe 2-3 tablespoons of liquid?

      Ends of the housing ??

The proper fill is when the lube is at the bottom of the threads of the filler hole.... not necessarily the tube ends.

      You may be over full.

Sorry for leaving out some necessary info - it's a Ford 9" in a FAB9 housing.

The ends of the housing - where the axles go in. I mean just barely dripping out of the ends - that's what Strange says to do in the instructions. The vent is on top of the axle tube, 3" away from the liquid so it must have been thrown out? It's strange that I would see so much fluid there after I parked.

I thought it was brake fluid that had dripped on top of the housing and on the ground, but it doesn't appear that any of the brake lines are leaking fluid, whereas the axle vent definitely leaked at least some fluid.

I've no idea how much windage/pressure a FAB9 housing might generate, but you might consider a circle track trick: run the vent to a catch can with a filter in the trunk. When the car cools, the excess fluid runs back into the housing.
