      68 windows in a 67 firebird?

I would like to get rid of the vent windows in my 67 firebird. Is there a way to use the 68 windows in the 67 doors? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Yes, Find a set of 1968 Firebird doors and cut the inside structure (the flat inside steel structure of the door that is against the door panel) from the right and left doors. Remove the same section from your right and left 67 doors and weld the 68 inside door section in both of your 67 doors. Use all the 68 windows, regulators and other parts including the 68 windshield pillar post weatherstripping and mounting track.

      That's the HARD WAY!

The easier way is to find 2 good 68 doors (right and left) and bolt them on your car. You will also need the 68 windshield pillar post track that mounts the pillar weatherstrip since the 68 Firebird window glass will now meet the weatherstripping on the windshield pillar post instead of the vent window frame meeting the weatherstrip on the windshield pillar post. This is a bolt in with the proper parts. The hardest part of this conversion is finding 2 GOOD 68 doors!

The problem is the inner structure for mounting the windows/regulators is totally different between 67 and 68 door. The exterior skin and jamb sections are the same. That's why you need 68 doors, glass, regulators and pillar post weatherstipping parts.

The door hinges on 67s are different from 68 and 69s hinges. So the inner structure is the way to go.

Thanks Frank, I forgot about the hinges. Just took the beautiful 68 Camaro convertible I posted a picture of on the site 3 weeks ago to have the sheetmetal work completed by the metalman. At the same time I also took the 67 Camaro convertible that's a little better than the 68 Camaro convertible to start its metal replacement and removed the 67 hinges to rebuild them.

Changing to from 67 to 68 hinges would require A pillar work so to change to 67 glass the easy way really would be the hard way! At least the flat inner structure typically does not rust so you could find some really rusty 68 doors for this conversion.

Thanks for the info guys. I had heard about the hinges being different between the 67 and 68-69 cars, that is why I was asking. I guess you could also cut the front of the door where the hinges mount and swap them out. I may just stick with the vents. Thanks.

I was thinking about doing this mod to my camaro but man my vent windows are in perfect shape. The chrome is in great shape so I may just leave them. I guess I have been against vent windows because most of the older mustangs I have messed with had horible pitting on the chrome and I thougth the camaros windows would be the same.
