      black paint

i was thinking of painting my chevelle black but i have always heard that it shows swerl marks once you was it or wax it. is this true and if so is there a way so you dont get those marks? i alway see cars at shows that are hight doller cars that are black and i never see any swerl marks in them. dose it depend on if you use a goog clear vs a cheaper clear? i was going to get all my paint from hok
      thanks
      chris

Getting any color to not show swirl marks is all done in the finishing steps of buffing and polishing.Swirl marks are actually marks from the buffing pad where the compound has dried and the pad has scratched the surface of the clear. These can be removed by using a foam pad and a finishing glaze.Use a buffer speed of around 1800 to buff with a wool pad and 1400 to finish with a foam pad.Use only high quality buffing products for the best results.

Black is one of the best looking colors, when done right, Black usally show all the bad spots in the body work, Make sure the car is nice and staright before you paint it.

and you get a real strong right arm from having to wash it every other day.... especially a car as big as a 65 chevelle

though ill never own anything aside from black cars

ya i have already had the car primered once and i have block sanded it with a guide coat and there were some low spots so iam going to have the guy that dose are body work come over and fix all those and have him look over the car again and after all is fixed i will primer it once more and then guide coat and block it and hopefully it will be straight!!

Also if you wash and wax going in straight lines like from the top to bottom instead of circular patterns, your swirls will be no more!

One key I have found is never car wash it,the soap they use at a car wash is hard on paint,I hand wash mine with a mircofiber rag and always wet, don't dry rub it.
Also I don't wash it unless its real dirty/dusty with bugs,I use a spray detialer and clean it that way,a detailer will actually lift the dirt and scratch when you wipe it.

oh yeah the deepest, darkest black I have found is dupont hot hues blackend looks great
