Leak In Speedo Unit In Dash???

I found what appeared to be an oil stain on my drivers side floor. At first I thought it was oil but after further inspection it turned out to be grease(the odor and texture) I traced it back under the dash and found that it is coming from the Factory SPEEDO assembly. I was not aware that these are packed with grease!! Anyone else run into this problem before?? It seems to be coming from the rear where the cable goes into. Just to clarify again THIS IS IN THE SPEEDO UNIT IN THE DASH NOT in the tranny!! Thanks in advance!!

I'm not aware of any large amounts of grease in the speedo unit.
      Here's a thought...
If there is a leak at the cable connection at the trans could it possibly push the lube from inside the cable and make it come out behind the dash???
Just guessing here...but you might want to check the trans end of the cable.
      Good luck,

Try installing a new seal around the speedo gear in the trans. The plastic gets worn and trans fluid pumps up the cable. Usually only with an auto. FRANK.
