      Anyone run a Wide 5 setup

      I have a friend that races stock cars and we were thinkning of putting a wide 5 hub setup and discs on my 66 malibu. Anyone out there tried this, any tips? Thanks

      Thought about it (hubs and brakes are everywhere and the cost is reasonable) but the problem is wheels-- you're pretty much limited to 15" steelies (if you're into that look, I guess it's OK) which means you are also limited on brake rotor & caliper size because they have to clear 15" wheels. Also not to many good street tires out there in 15" (other than drag tires or narrower 15" tires for imports and the like.)

      Also, most wide-5 wheels are really thin for max weight savings-- I'd be worried about subjecting one to extended amounts of street driving.

      I'd bet you could get custom 16" made by the stock car guys, but still would probably be in steel. the wide 5 steel wheels I have on an asphalt car are anything but thin. As stout as any truck wheel, figure they use them in the dirt too.Most the ashpult cars use a Wilwood aluminum GM type caliper at all 4 corners.
