TBI fuel pump
I am installing a Chevy TBI motor in my 64 Buick Special and I am looking for an external fuel pump for it. In the past I always used Datsun 280 ZX pumps but that is too much pressure for this application. Any ideas? Thanks

Pressure is just a measure of restriction. I believe the TBI engines ran at about 16-18psi. I don't see any reason why you would not be able to regulate the pressure down to that level using the 280 ZX pump.

Have you installed an adjustable FPR on the TBI, or are you using the stock regulator?

It has the original regulator. I was not thinking about this in the right way. I was thinking it would put too much load on the pump but the opposite is true. Thanks

A lot of people running built up TBI engines on third gen F body cars are using TPI pumps for their cars. With TPI systems running anywhere from 39-46 psi depending on year these shouldn't be a problem.

the pump doesn't create pressure but flow, pressure is a resistance to flow and therefore set by the regulator. The resulator setting pressurizes the entire sytsem from pump to regulator at that setting. You mcan run your TBI system w/ the stock regulator and use a TPI pump, it'll keep up with the fuel flow demands far better than the TBI pump will.
