      Rear LS1 Snafu

Embarassing as it is, I bought the wrong side from my brake conversion. I researched and researced and still screwed up I bought components for two right side brackets and calipers and when mocking up to weld flex hose tabs noticed that the caliper was on the wrong side!

As I do have one left hand caliper it will cost about $240 to get the correct parts and then hope that I can sell all of my right hand parts. So, getting to why this is in the suspension forum...

I was looking into relocating the shocks and have found some decent weld in brackets, but they all require "eye" mounts on the bottom of the shock. I will be going for the most cost effective solution, so any suggestions on the shock relocation? I am looking for advise on shocks and mounting brackets.

      Thanks,

      Brent

lower mounts from DSE or Coleman work fine.

What do you want for the brakes? Are your calipers staggared front or rear mounted?

I looked at the DSE brackets before, but they were for a 1st gen. I believe the picture you have shows them mounted on them relocated to the inside which would require a new upper shock mount to be installed. What I would like to do is use the stock upper mount in the wheel well and just relocated switch the staggered set-up (i.e. move drivers side lower shock mount from rear to front of axle).

I paid $82 with S&H for the backing plate/e-brake from GMPartsDirect.com, the other bracket I got from the junk yard. I took a look last night on their website and noticed that the plates are special order, so no return. I ended up with two right calipers and one left as I peiced this thing together through several purchases. Probably can sell one right caliper and the backing plates to recoup some cost, but will need the other for a core.

I have found adjustable weld in relocation brackets for about $39 which would require some application guess work on new shocks. I am thinking this route would run about the same as just buying the right backing plates (about $240). Equally screwed I guess.

the shocks are easy, just figure out the style mounts and measurments are listed. I just figured out your working on a 71...I assumed after reading your screen name. year of birth?

Good catch, it is my nickname from way back and year of birth. I guess that could be confusing. Suppose I better go out and get a '68 to make it right

It looks like third gen shock have the right ends on them, I just need to get overall length and travel measurements. I am still leaning toward just getting the right backing plates though. I don't mind fabricating or modifying, just don't want to do a huge amount as it makes swapping things out difficult down the road.

Thanks for the offer, I actually have the stock set. I suppose I could cut them and re-weld the shock mounts on the other side... No, I think I will just suck it up and buy two new left hand caliper brackets and call it a good lesson learned. Thanks for the help.
