      MEFI IV.......Where?

Anyone happen to know where this phantom ECM Kit is available?

"A fourth-generation ECM (MEFI IV)—utilizing state-of-the-art hybrid technology and related parts—is available in kit form."

      MEFI IV ECM

      Thanks!

You didn't mention what size engine youll be using it on but Scogin Dickey (/www.sdpc2000.com/) has the MEFI 4 ECM and Wiring harness available for the 350 Ram Jet, part # 12499116. They also have the MEFI 4 available for the 502 Ram Jet, but I only see the ECM and the Wiring Harness available sepreately, not as a kit.

I would like to find the OEM kit source within GM, because I want to read the OEM manual and I want to take a look at the "B" revision software. I'm especially interested in the Electronic Throttle Control interface.

I'd say your chances of finding the holy grail are better than getting your hands on a OEM MEFI4 kit and calibration software.

GM sells those only to Powertrain OEMs, and the requirements for that are quite strict, and require a ton of upfront cash.

I have a Ramjet 502. I struggled for nearly a year finding someone with knowledge of mefi4 system. It is a shame there isnt since when looking at the things it can do with my Rhinda technoligies Diacom RamJet - PC Software, Which is diagnostic only. It is a very sophistacted controller too bad GM wont share the tuning software with the users. I gave up and installed a new Fast XFI on my engine.

I love the XFI with a few hours of messing with it my motor I have some of the issues I hated about the way my motor hunted for idle with the MEFI4 cured and with some more time or a more experienced tuner I think my motor will have a significant power increase but most of all better driveabilty that the mefi4 didnt offer. Plus it has power adder controls that i can use for my turbos later.

I have done some research in trying to find out how to tune the MEFI 4 that I can share with you.

This is the link to the Jack Rousch company that makes the MEFI4. http://www.performanceas.com/

This is Rhinda technoligies site that offers the diagnostic software.

Harold Martin has several motor packages in which he uses the mefi4 but after 3 weeks of trying to get in touch with him he didnt seem to interested in helping someone who already had an engine, Arizona Speed and Marine or Steeet and Performance can tune it but I just dont buy into how they can tune my motor from the other side of the country. So I went to the fast system.

This guy figured it out but I cant get him to answer how. But he used a stand alone mefi4 to controll the nitrous on his Boss Hoss

If you get nothing else from this post reading about the guy with the 502 boss hoss with nitrous ought to make you smile.

I still have the mefi4 computer from my ramjet 502 and the rhinda tecnoligies softaware if you figure out how to tune it.

Excellent resources, thanks so much for taking the time.

I was kind of intrigued with the MEFI's pint size and under hood capability perfect for a short compact wiring harness.

The use of the ECM's dual fuel capability for NOS was especially interesting....some people are very clever.

I will check out the material and see what I can do, but GM has got me mad now and I will probably go with an
after market unit who makers won't make me beg and will gleefully take my money.

      Thanks again!

I have much of the mefi3 stuff figured out. I would be VERY interested in the MEFI4. How much are you looking to get for it?

I too would be very interested in finding out more about the MEFI4 controller and the software that is required to tune it.

I know that Painless Wiring is working on their "Perfect Engine Management" system. They use a MEFI4 controller and supposedly the unit will be user programmable. How is this possible? They must be writting software that will give the MEFI4 a user interface. Similar to what HP Tuners, EFILive and others have done for the OEM LS1 computers.

The mefi systems at least up to the 3 are more like the 94-95 lt1 computer than the ls1 computer. They are not the OBD2 interface.

Is painless selling theirs with user software or are they selling them pre-programmed?

It sounds as though Painless wants to run the show.

      From their ECM manual:

"The PERFECT ECM has been specifically calibrated for you particular engine. This computer will not work with any other type of engine, nor will it work with a modified engine (i.e. aftermarket parts). The computer has also been programmed to control your electric fan."

      Tuning

I understand your pains with tuning the MEFI series computers. I ended up having AZ Speed and Marine tune my 383 RamJet. They did a wonderful job on this particular job. I feel that it is hit or miss with AZSM.

I am curious why you switched to the Fast. In another post you said you used the Rhinda to solve your problems Did more problems develop? Im trying to get my RJ 350 running and am having a heck of a time. It fired up on the first crank and ran beautifully but has gone south ever since. I've tried so many things. The thought of taking it to a dealer scares me. Mostly the fear of them damaging my car. I can understand why people want to switch back to carb! I dont have a scan tool yet because I am unsure of which one to buy.

      Thanks

What did it cost to set up your 502 with the FAST XFI, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks, in advance.

My guess is these are made where I work, Delphi Electronics. I will see if I can find out anything on them. Don't hold your breath though.

I was right, they are made by Delphi. Here is what I found out:

If someone is looking for a kit including harness and first rate operation manual, I would send them to www.technicalservicesin.com. They helped me with my truck, and they buy the controllers from us. They offer harnesses, calibrations, service manuals, dyno's, ... They are located up in Syracuse, IN. They have put the MEFI4 on anything from 4 cyl. Honda's to HEMI's. I don't know pricing, but they provide some very nice systems.

The other nice thing about the MEFI4 unit, is that every unit can be a "calibration" unit. No special hardware required to re-calibrate "on the fly". I do not know what software might be commercially available to re-program the units as I have always used custom tools developed internal to Delphi. The controller itself is very flexible almost to the point of being overwhelming with regards to its configurability. Again, the guys at Technical Services could answer questions about the interface software. I do know that the software is designed to run on any PC, so no special programming computer required, but it is likely to require a programming cable to convert the PC voltages to the ECM voltages.
