We didn't build the transaxle.I actually wish i new more about it.The owner researched it and wanted this piece in there. It was 16.000 dollars for this piece so I would hope it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Interesting, is it a full sequential?

Makes me think he went with something like the 6spd Quaife, transverse mounted, full dog ring engagement, shifted via cable. That will be right up near $16k with a bell housing and clutch.

Curious to see how it works with that relatively low rpm turbo motor. A setup like that is generally designed for a very high rpm motors, the problem is they are super close ratio and 6th is 1:1. Well when the final drive being limited to 3.8x ish, well you can see the potential issues. It either needs a super tall tire, or your drastically limited in the potential top speed.

Mendola makes a few that have a nice .70 od, but i'm not certain if it would even fit in the ultima w/o the tail end poking out the body work.

Do tell though, i'm interested to see how it comes out.

Is he going to be taking it to a wind tunnel before he attempt to run it a bonneville. With what i've learned at two of the shop i visit he better put some weight in the car and make sure the aerodynamics are spot on or he's in for one hell of a ride.

I've looked at getting one of these before building my 68. Yes, A basic kit price was about 35K. This is without engine, transaxle, etc. You get it raw! "Pile-O'-Parts" I found that by the time you get a (basic) working car, you are spending close to 75K. I think the turnkey's were about 100K. Now you need to register it in the states! They said they would help you with that. WOW!

P.S. I know the transaxles are very spendy 6K for the basics unit. Built racing Sequential 'would' be $16K. I was looking at the Quaife Sequential Viper 6spd for a measly 18K. Ouch! I still want it... The T56 will need to do for now.

Sometimes on Ebay you can find the G50/50 Porshe unit for just a couple of thousand. These are pretty stout.

Or, if you want the Ultima but wont be putting more than 400hp or so in it you can go with an Audi transaxle and spend a lot less. At least, this is what a lot of the GT-40 kit builders are doing.

I agree though, the Quaife stuff looks pretty drool-worthy... but the prices are a little hard to swallow.

just run the G50! untima gusy have run well over 500bhp and smiler torque through them with no problems!

as for the one on th nelson then you could use a powerhouse box! they would speck the turbo or GT 2 box and build it with even stronger teeth!

      thanks Chris.

what about using a C5corvette rear with the engine coupled directly to the gearbox?
or will such a package be to long to fit?

The C5/C6 transaxle isn't really a transaxle. It is a transmission bolted to a differential. The total package is extremely long, and the halfshafts are at the back of the package as opposed to the front like a Porsche unit. I'm sure it could be done, but the vehicle proportions probably wouldn't look right.
