      What gives??

I know my upper ball joints won't. Ok here is the senierio i got new wheels coming will be in next week. I already done some measurements and the front of the car has to be lowered are the fender gap will be awful. So to get me by untill the winter i was goin to cut the coil springs down. I have a 71 nova with factory drum brakes. I pop the Lower ball joint loose but i can't get the lca down because it catches on the backing plate of the drum. So i tried to split the top ball joint and i rammed the my craftsman ball joint spliter until you could not go any further and it would not give. I am new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated. At this point i'm .

liberally apply kroil, mouse milk,wd-40, whatever penetrating oil. loosen but leave on both upper and lower ball joint nuts, let the spring pressure force it apart, if you need more help hit the side of the control arm right next to the ball joint with a hammer,

I have popped them loose by loosening the nut to the end of its travel, with the spring still installed. Then hold a big hammer on one side of the spindle and hit directly opposite on the spindle (kind of like the big hammer is a body dolly). It will shock it loose and the thing will pop off but be stopped by the nut. Make sense?
