      Engine rebuild question!

How much should I expect to pay for engine assembly if I have all the parts and the machine work has already been done? I have been quoted anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500 for assembly. Am I just crazy or is that way too much?

It takes me about 40 hours to assemble an engine, sometimes longer. That includes measuring all clearances, degreeing the cam, file-fitting the rings, valve train geometry, etc. You can throw one together in a day, but if you want to verify all the critical areas it takes quite a while.

Good question. I was talking with my machinist yesterday and asked what I should figure on whn I have a motor built. I trust him based on past experience and he quoted me $1400 for machining and assembly.
