57 Chevy Wheel / Tire HELP!
We have mini tubbed and 4 linked (Jim Meyerproduct) a 57 Chevy Hardtop. The frame is in the stock location.
Looking for help on a wheel / tire package that has good eye appeal. I think I want about a 28.5 - 29.5" tire height on a 10" wheel. I would prefer to stay with a less than 20" wheel (I prefer a little more tire sidewall).

Hey folks, this is a good friend of mine, and as he said he is building a 57 for a cruiser. He called me about tire sizes but I have not messed with a 57 recently. Anyone out there done one lately with bigger size wheels?

Hope this helps - if the rear frame rails are in the stock location - that is the limiting factor - since you said you mini tubbed. You can use a 285/45-18 on a 10" wheel (the tire is 28.5" tall). I can't tell you what back space because it depends on the rear width and what brakes (stock width rear and wheel tubs take an 8 with 4.5" of backspace). In the front you can run at least a 225/45 17 or 18 - I have seen 225/50-17s or you can go as wide as 245 depending on ride height and front spindle and brakes. There is a spread sheet over at www.chevytalk.com done by chevynut that gives stock widths and what fits and is being used on members cars. I can tell you that 225/40-18 on 7 wide with 4" backspace will work on a very low dropped spindle disc brake car but 4.5" backspace would be better (ask me how I know LOL). If I can be of any more help let me know.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The TOUR came through our area yesterday and I saw a couple of cars with this type package you recommended. They looked pretty good. Thanks for the help.
I too built a 55 a couple of years ago and found that when you get em low, you gotta throw the front spacing in some for fender clearance.
