Rear Convertible 3 Point Seat Belts

      OK,

I know this is a question that alot of you would love to have answered so I hope someone has an answer for it. I have two kids 5&7 that love to go for rides in my 69 CONVERTIBLE. Problem is there is only the waist strap in the back seat. Has anyone rigged or know of a company that makes a 3 point seat belt that can be used in a REAR SEAT CONVERTIBLE?? Has anyone used a simpson or similiar setup in the rear?? ANY feedback or PICTURES would be very much appreciated!!

      Thanks
      Mark

Pick up some rear seat belts from a 4th gen Camaro. Easiest bolt in I ever performed for my back seats. 3 point fully functional. Just used all of my seatbelts in the car at the last road track event. I got to fill the entire car up even with my 2 year old nephew at lunch time. I was allowed to drive 30mph but it was a blast. I even have videos of it on my site.

It is just a guess but the retractable mechanism goes back quite far in the 4th gen Camaros and Trans ams. Keep in mind they are a hatch back with no where really to bolt besides the sides of the car in the rear. With a little creativity they should bolt right in.

THis is a pic from a convertible 2002 trans am. You can get these seat belts dirt cheap for the rear of those cars.

Sorry to double post but here is a very quick search on e-bay for similar seat belts. This is a set for the entire car but they are cheap and only 7 hours left.

Damn having a hard time posting here hope this makes it through.

Anyways, I like that idea but how about this idea?? I have the stock rear seat in my 69 convertible and was looking at using a four point harness as an option. I would use the bottom two stock mounting positions for two belts that go across the bottom and drape the two top belts over the top of the rear seats attached to the panel that the rear seat rests on. I figure I would have to reinforce the mounting locations of the two shoulder belts, or I could run a bar across the back of it to make the mounting points stronger. What do you think?

Also on a side note if I went with the rear seat setup how would I mount the belts??

Adam, is the only shot you have of your rear belt install? I see you bolted them to the package tray, but I'd like to see shots of the retractors installed, both top & below the tray. You can post them in that sticky if you have more pics. The one (yup, just a rh one) I got with my seats don't have anykind of bezel to hide the mechanism with.

I guess I dont have any pics that I can find of the rear retracting mechanisms. However I do have a couple videos that just barely shows them in the back package tray. The videos are on my site in the race events section. Under Gingerman 4-14-06.

I will try to dig up some pics. There has to be some somewhere.

I see what you are saying Adam, but the big difference between the set up you have and what I have is that I am using the stock rear seat which means that I have no space in between the two sides to allow me to install the bottom buckle floor attachement. This is why I suggested the 4 point harness instead. Have you gave any thought to what I suggested? Figured if anyone could think of a practical way to attach that setup it would be you.

Actually even though you have a full bench seat you will still have room to place the seat belts. Just put them in the exact same location as they came from the factory. Heck they might bolt right in. I know there are holes there. Between the crack of the bottom seat and the backrest. Behind there should be holes with seatbelts already there. They always fall behind the seats in everyones cars. Actually if you want to chat on the phone you have my number Mark. 4 point would be more work. Im not sure if your looking for an inexpensive way to solve this problem or a quick way or the cool looking alternative. Its always harder to communicate via e-mail.
