      Using tow dolly

Uhaul told me that if I use a dolly to tow my mustang that I have to disconnect the driveshaft. I thought that was only for automatic transmissions. Is it necessary for a manual? Are they just covering their butts?

At $39 a day for 5 days. I think I will look around to buy one.

Personally...I'll never use a tow dolly again. I'd just rent a full trailer if I was you...

Tow dolly's suck monstrous ass. I hate them with a passion. You can never back up with one either. Ask me how I know. As for what they told you, it's really standard for them to say that. I would guess that it's so the transmissions bearings and stuff doesn't wear as there's no fluid being tossed around like normal. Either way, I'd look for a full trailer.

Well I have a toyota 4runner 2wd. they won't let me take a full trailer. I had to lie and say my car was a 4cyl so that they would let me reserve the dolly.

why would you not use a dolly? I would like a full trailer, but last time I used one with the 4runner it really loaded it down and was swaying the rear side to side the whole time.

So what about that driveshaft question?

Standard dtatement about the driveshaft. They are legally obligated to infoerm everyone of the possible damage caused if, let's say, your trans went into gear.

ok, ok. ok. You guys talked me out of it.

I was able to called and change my reservation to a full trailer. Got a different salesman and he just upgraded it no questions asked. Only $10 more a day and my rear tires get to save 900miles worth of rubber.

Thanks for helping me out everyone.

Tow dollys are good for small local moves unless you know the car and are used to towing with one, I have one I got from a friend, he pulled numerous rabbits, miata's from FL all the way to CT, he's a SCCA racer, I've never had any trouble towing car with mine.
