      hilborn injection

I looking at the hilborn injection for a sb/383 stroker. Has anyone tryed running them? Is there any other options for this style of injection system. can they be run on the street or are they to tempremental? Thanks Tim

If you're talking about their mechanical injection, yes, it can be pretty interesting on the street. Mechanical injection tends to work really well in a pretty narrow RPM window. Get it to work well below 4,000 and it'll be way way lean up high, or if it works well at 8,000, it'll be eating plugs around town...even with a mag.

Mechanical injection definetely has a learning curve associated with tuning it, but when it's running right, there's nothing like it.

Converted to EFI they're awesome. Avoid Hilborns computer set up (Carabine I think) and use something like FAST, BS3, Holley, etc. Smooth as a new car when tuned, I really enjoyed mine.

Hilborn, Kinsler, Enderle, Crower are all good intakes. They are better suited for EFI on the street for efficiency. As stated above they can be made to work excellent mechanically but they will not be efficient.

Kinsler is the cream of the crop IMO, their intakes have bronze bushed throttle shafts, optional stainless steel throttle shafts, split throttle shafts for more precise adjustability and so on.

Check out Kinslers and Hilborns websites for more comparisons. Hilborn has a good intake. I have a used mechanical SBC Hilborn that will be converted to EFI. Yet one of two things will happen I'll either have bronze bushings and stainless steel shafts in stalled for more precise tolerences or I'll find a Kinsler used before the mods take place and sell the Hilborn.

Either way you choose, from what little feedback I've recieved in the past, it'll compliment your ride with good performance.

just a bump about hilborn... i have the mechanical setup for the SBC.. im thinking of going EFI which means welding in bungs and install a fuel rail.. anyone can point me in the direction of getting the screw or weld in bungs.. and would i have to get low rise valve covers so plugs will clear?

      cheers all

If you go EFI there are plenty of companies to look into:

      http://www.twminduction.com/Home/Home-FR.html

      http://www.redlineweber.com/

      http://www.momarefi.com/

Plus Kinsler and Hilborn as stated earlier.
