      employment rant.

Lately I been Im thinking its about time I try to find a job to add a little extra funding to the camaro pool. Wow can looking for a job get you down.

My friend works at adavanced in the next town and he said he could probably get me on I just need to fill out an application, so I did. Well about 3 or so weeks go by and I stop in to say hello and he asked me if he got me a job yet and he asked if I put in my app, I told him that in fact I did. A day or so passes and I catch him online start asking if he can get me on and he says...." I could have but you scored on the lowest level of the personality profile"....so begins my rant.

I have more than 2 years of classes in automotive education. Ive completely stripped and repainted my car, serviced A/C systems, hell i even rebuilt and automatic transmisson. Ive had classes in Automotive electricity, ignitions and fuel systems and many more. The only courses offered I have not yet completed are engines and brakes.

I have been familiarized with the operations of the Snap-On vantage, VAT 45, Ocilliscopes, OEM engine scan tools, digital multimeters and many other high tech tools. Mind you a lot of the testing and lessons I have completed may have only been performed once or twice in the classroom. It may take me a while to become completely comfortable using this equipment and using my training to its full potential. I understand that exercising these skills more often and implementing this training is what I need to get the experience everybody desires.

But where I am right now I cant even get on at advanced auto because my personality profile was on the lowest level. Mind you these questions have no situation behind them just a bunch of incomplete questions where you are supposed to place yourself and answer with a number between 1 and 10, 1 representing strongly disagree and 10 strongly agree.

A quick piece of advice, not that I condone or practice this.

      LIE!!!!!!

Most of those apps are bs and any semi-intelligent person knows what a potential employer wants to hear so give it to them.. I'm not saying to lie about your backround or past job records, just stuff they can't check out...which in some way is probably discriminatory...

Well I didnt think I was giving answers that they wouldnt want to hear. Its just the questions on this application (mind you and online applcation) seemed to be situation dependant...but included no details on the situation. I have filled out this style application before and these questions didnt seem as cut-n-dry as others i have taken.

A long time ago I applied with Jasper Engines as an area sales rep. I aced all the interviews and it was looking great.. then came the personality "test".. questions like:

Lots of weird questions and my answers seemed to be good and to be honest what I would think they would want to hear. The questions kept getting more and more adstract as it went on.. almost on the verge of being bizzar.

Later I was told that they couldn't hire me because my "test" showed I had emotional issues.. yea, right..

It was very weird. I later applied at Panasonic where I worked for 14 years.. lol

Heck, they didn't need a test to determine THAT!

Yeah, we have lost a few candidates to the frickin personality test. I am glad I was hired before the personality test. All I had to take 8+ yrs ago was like a small SAT. Easy. And some of the people who pass this "test", if it truly does measure personality, either know how to lie or the test is BS.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

This is a way for companies to rate you and avoid future lawsuits if they don't hire you. Too many people sue for a variety of reasons today.

I think the testing is BS, everyone knows that the testing is not accurate. What happened to good old fashion interviewers?

Sorry to hear that, that stinks
