      integral subframeconectors

      Hi

When I am changing my floorboards I will construct some integral subframeconectors. But the problem is that I donīt want to weld them to the subframe because I want to be able to take the subframe of.
Can I weld some 3 mm plates around the subframe mount and then weld the connector to that ? Or will that result in poor performance from the connectors.

Dse will sell you a set with a crush tube installed instead of welding to the subframe[URL="http://detroitspeed.com/ElmersPage10.html"]Go towards the bottom for info. They're prices are pretty fair $175 normally probably a reasonable charge for the mod.

Sorry, I fixed the link. You can't link to anything other than their home page. http://detroitspeed.com/ Go to the projects page and click on Elmer Millikan's Camaro. There is a picture near the bottom of the page. The crush tube is similar to how your steering gear box bolts pass through the sub frame. Basically, you just drill two sets of holes through the sides of your sub frame and weld in a tube similar to a sleeve. Then make some connector brackets. Make holes in them that line up to the holes in the sub frame. Install nuts and bolts through the holes and use tubing and bolts that will fit snugly so there is no slop. If you have any more questions just ask. I usually check the site every night. Hopefully this will give you a basic idea of the process.

You can link to other pages on their site. The problem with that link was the two "http://"s on it.

      Here's the fixed link:

I tried that last night after I saw the screwup. No matter what I did it would'nt work maybe it was just a temporary problem.

I just built my own out of 2 X 3 X .125 rect. tubing very much like CarlC has described on his website. I just welded an extention onto my subframe and bolted to the connectors. I welded crush sleves inside the subframe connectors for additional strength.

No problem let us know how it turns out. I can call DSE and get the bolt and tube size if you would like.
