Key will not kill the engine

I converted to a late model alternator on my 67 camaro. Now the car will not shut off with the ignition, it keeps running and I have to unplug the distributor to shut it off.

Do I have to remove the external regulator?

      Is this my problem?

MSD equipt? you may have to install a diode in the field circuit.

Sorry about that, yes full MSD ignition.

How do you install the diode and where do I get one?

Is your stock regulator still hooked up?
To find out for sure cut power to the brown wire at your stock voltage regulator. If you have a one wire alternater now you can just eliminate the stock regulator and wiring. Just hook up the idiot lamp wire to the new alt.
If you still have your MSD kit there is a small diode (looks like a small black firecracker with wires at each end) in it with instructions. Try your local speedshop or you can call MSD and they can send one to you. Installation is easy.

I had the same problem when I hooked my starter solenoid up wrong, might take a look at that.

So you think that I should hook up the other small wire? I have a mini torque powermaster starter.

Yes the stock regulator is still hooked up. Unfortunately, it lokks like they forgot to send the little diode as part of my kit.

I will take your advice on the regulator, but I have a two wire alternator not a one wire. Should I still do this?

yeah you can. I believe it should kill it when you disco the connecter or pull the bulb out of your alt port. Run it and pull the connecter, see if it works? Same effect as having the diode installed.

You can still wire your new altrnator but i don't have the info to do that right now.

...what did you do with the yellow resister bypass wire? You should remove it out of the system completly.

If you have a two wire alternator then you need to hook up the main power wire and the wire coming from your idiot light, that's it.
