      Goodwrench?

How much HP can you get from a Goodwrench Sbc engine block before it blows?
I`ve heard a lot about the mex made blocks but are the rumours true?

All under 6.27 litres is a starter.

I had one Hencho en Mexico that lasted 247,000+ miles before a rod cap failure..... (I actually suspect the rod bolt.)

I ran that thing hot/cold to the redline every gear until I got into the binders.... everytime the engine started. I dropped a set of TFS 23* heads on it with a small flat tappet cam and it made 418-ish hp on 87 octane. It was pretty much the same build that the magazines did multiple articles on in the early 2000/2001 issues.

Back then (circa 1990) it was $1199.00 and rated at 250hp with a small carb, an after market manifold and headers. If you pick the right parts I can personally spot you at getting 450hp out of it, normally asperated.

I've heard the bad rumors. They're not true. One rumor that might be true is that the block is actually better than your stock block. It supposedly carries more nickel in it. Most are 4 bolt mains with cast crank, rods, and pistons. They should be good for between 450-500 hp with all the right parts. The one downfall is that most are limited to 8.5:1 compression. It takes a damn small chamber and shim head gasket to get over 9.6:1. They are good engines, despite what some people say. They are an excellent base for a street motor.
