Need some input
I'm working on designing a new spindle for my Ford Ranger to run 13" Cobra brakes. I have the Ford CAD file for my steering knuckle and the spindle that is pressed into the steering knuckle. My new spindle is already designed but here is my question. What would you build the spindle out of, i.e. what material? I've done some reading and Strange uses 4150, machines the part, heat treats it, and then finish grinds it. Any other materials out there that would be good?

For what it's worth, Speedway and Coleman spindle pins are mild steel.
For a set of one-off's, I'd probably use something like 4140 PH or 4340 PH, assuming the design is good.-Matt
