Tko Neutral Safety Switch And Reverse Light Switch

Down to the "wire" literally on my TKO install and need a little guidance with the wiring part. I know there are three switches on the TKO600 .

      1. Electric speedo.. Since I am not using this I assume I can just leave this connector the way that it is.

      2. The Reverse light switch( two brass studs) I will be using this one so I am assuming that I need to find a connector that will plug onto the two brass studs and then splice it into the GREEN AND PINK WIRES in the console?? Who sells this type of connector??

      3. Neutral safety switch. OK this one really confuses me. I am guessing there are three options with this one.

      a. Do not use it and tie wrap the connector from the tranny...... If I decide NOT to use it then what do I do with the two purple wires(one with a white stripe on it) that were connected to my automatic shifter? Do I leave them unplugged and under the console or do I have to connect them in some way to each other? or some other place?

      b. Use it so that the tranny will only start when it is in neutral... OK sounds like the safe way to go but how do I connect it, and what do I use to connect it with? Also does it have to be connected to the two purple wires that were connected to my automatic shifter? Someone said that you would have to connect it using a relay? How is this done?

      c. Use it and also wire in a clutch switch so the tranny can be started in neutral and also if the clutch is engaged.... To be honest I would not even know where to begin with this one!!

Anyways, I am sorry for the long post but I am electrically challenged so I really am trying to make as much sense of this as possible and trying to find the easiest and simpliest way possible. ANY HELP OR SPECIFIC PLACES TO BUY "PLUG AND PLAY" PARTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

      Thanks
      Mark

Mark, As far as the reverse switch goes, I think you can get the connectors from Classic Chevy 5 speed. You could just solder wires on them, then use some heatshrink to cover the studs. I got lucky and found the correct connectors from where I work.

The neutral safety switch had me for a while too. I was going to use the mechanical switch on the clutch pedal, but had a heck of a time trying to mount one that would work, so I wired up the internal TKO neutral safety switch with a relay, since the TKO switch can not handle the amount of amps going through it. So here is how I wired up the switch with a 30 amp Bosch relay:

      1. Fused 12 ga. wire from battery to terminal number 30 on relay.
      2. Ground terminal 85 on relay.
      3. Attach purple/white wire (ignition) from original nuetral safety switch to one wire of the TKO saftety switch
      4. Attach other wire from TKO safety switch to terminal 86 of the relay.
      5. Attach original puple wire from stater solenoid to terminal 87 of relay.

I mounted the relay in my console. It works great!

You could use two ring connectors if the reverse switch studs are threaded.

If you decide to not use the neutral safety switch you must splice the the two purple wires together. They trigger the starter solenoid.

Just out of curiosity, does the TKO have a reverse lockout solenoid like the T56?

I thought they were threaded, they sure looked threaded, but they're not, they are made for push on type 90 deg. barrel connectors.

There is also no reverse lockout solenoid that I am aware of.

      Will this work??

I looked in my bag of extras that came with my kit and found this kit from Fortes. Will this work for the Reverse light hookup??

I am assuming you unscrew the two brass stud setup and replace it with the metal plug supplied in the kit, then stick the two metal spikes attached to two wires into the weatherpack plug and plug it into the replacement connector. Is this how this fortes kit works?? I have supplied a picture below of the kit I have from Fortes.

ALSO, I really appreciate the diagram but do you have a part number for that Bosch Relay? I have found plenty of 5 post relays with an 87a number for the fifth post but have not been able to find a four post one. Where could I buy one??

      Thanks

I went to a local junkyard one Saturday and found a Mustang that used to have a stick in it, and was pleased to see the factory wiring harness for the reverse lights dangling. I snipped it off above the factory disconnect so I could seperate it there for removal. You can also run the wire from your starter solenoid to that nuetral saftey switch and another from that switch to back to the starter solenoid.

Nope, and with reversed being non-syncronized the tranny will let you know if you're trying to grab the wrong gear.
