all i know is that they are near indestructible. I drove the military variety. Make sure the tie rods are ok. thats the only weak link in the drive train.

When Bob Johnson sees this he will have a stroke from the buildup of jokes in his head.

one guy mentions the pitman arm and tie rods. (i broke one. but any other vehicle would've been irrepareable.)

Hard to park. Hard to see. I cant imagine driving one in traffic.

I would give you a hummer for your bike, but I am not in to that. Sorry.

Damn, what's your bike worth for someone to want to trade you a Hummer? I didn't think the value on those things came below $60k!

We had a guy in our 4x4 club with one. It would go anywhere when it ran! The main problem was it was way underpowered.

Just a short list of things he detroyed off roading it (and he did not drive it like it was stolen he was a 60 year retired proffessor)
      steering box (twice)
starter (on the top of a mtn)
numerous CV joints (due to ripped boots)
numerous tie rods as mentioned already.
I think he also had a portal box fail as well.

Make sure you go over the thing thoroughly as alot of them are not maintained very well as most people do think they are indestructable even without maintenance!

I still think the civilian ones get the seconds from the military line. The military ones seem to be built better.

      or stuff like this?

      * In 1990, before the H1 was sold to the public, and even before Operation: Desert Storm, AM General tested two matching white H1s by entering them in the "London To Peking Motor Challenge", a car rally consisting largely of vintage automobiles. The H1s performed flawlessly, traversing the rough roads and desert heat of central Asia with ease and even performing stunts like climbing sand dunes in the Gobi Desert for the amusement of local villagers. Highlights of the drive were broadcast in the United States on ESPN.
      * In 2003, there were only 10,877 Hummer H1s in existence. 2004 production was scheduled to be 235 trucks.
      * Crawl ratio is 35.35:1.
      * The Hummer H1 uses front brake calipers from the AMC Eagle, steering column from the Ford LTD, ignition key set from the Ford Escort, armrests from the Jeep Cherokee, and seats from Isringhausen.
      * The Hummer H1's exterior is a combination of fiberglass (for the hood) steel, and aluminum. Its body panels are bonded together with a combination of rivets, bolts and cyanoacrylic (ie, Superglue) adhesives.

I know they work nicely with stroked standard gasoline smallblocks....

I put a 377cid EFI in Arnolds 'Terminator' and it would spin the shoes off of it.
