The best table I have ever seen was at Ingersol Milling Machine in Rockford, IL. It was maybe 4'x5' with about a 1 1/2" top. The top had two sets of parallel grooves 3/4" deep x 3/8" wide. The fabricator would drop 3/8" x 1 1/2" flat bars in the grooves to make right angles.
Then clamp the work to the bar stock for perfect 90* corners every time. If he was not working on right angles just pull the bars out of the grooves and it was a normal table.
