      A new guy from WI

Hello every one. I thought I would intro my self. I have been tinkering with my 1968 Firebird since I was 17 (1981) and I think this maybe the spot I should hang out at. I am finally putting it back together after 2 years of messing around and trying to get the body shop to get its @ss in gear to finish what they promised they would have done by April 1st of 04. The color is Dodge Viper blue. It has a 455 Pontiac engine, a Tremec TKO 600, 9” ford with 3.25 gears and 4 wheel disc brakes. I yanked out the AC/heater smoothed the firewall had a SS plate made to cover it and put in a Vintage air heater/defroster set up. I still need to get the fenders door and trunk lid back on as well as finishing up the wiring for some of the gauges and the solenoids for the shaved door handles and trunk. I removed all the emblems and had vinyl one made to replace them so as to get a smoother look. I also got a fiberglass hood and am going to try to reverse the hood pins so the do not stick through the hood but are clipped down in the grill area. I want to upgrade the suspension at some point but I am flat out of cash. Hopefully I can pick some of your brain for ideas on how to finish this car. Here are some pictues of it so far. I have a long way to go but it's getting there. Thanks Steve

Hey thanks for the welcome. I live by Hillpoint WI it's about 1.25 hours northwest of madison. Is there any good events coming up this summer in WI? I hope to have the car done before the summer is over. Here are more pictures one of my new hood. It looks like stock 400 hood but it is 1.5 inches taller and it is only 22 lbs. The other one is of my fuel system and 9". Steve

Kurt, I looked at your web site. I need to get up to your place and look at what you are doing if that is OK with you. I have 1973 TA I want to start after the 68 is finished and I am looking for a shop. I may end up taking the 68 away from the guy who is working on it now if he dosn't get working on it. Like I said in the first post it was promised to be done on April 1st 2004. Interested? I will ty to call you today. I also have some parts you may be interested in for one of your project down the road. Steve

      Steve -

First, welcome to the site. Good to see another birdbrain on board. Nice car and I like that color blue on it.

Second, we need to talk. Where did you purchase that hood or did you make it ? I have a clearance problem, but really wanted to retain a "400" hood.

Last, when I saw your alias, I cracked up. One of my college buddies was always called "Steve Firebird"

Speedster I think if I remember right the hood will give you 1.5 inches more clearance. I bought it from a Paul Spotts from Spotts Performance. It’s pricey but good quality and unique. I have a link here so you can look at the web site where you can buy it. Paul is a big time Pontiac guy and builds some wicked engines and even though he is pretty busy most of the time he has good quality stuff. I also got a 67 style hood tach because they are taller then the 68 type hoping that it will look better with the exaggerated hoop scoop opening. Like my buddies and I always say” if you ain’t got ram air and a hood tach you ain’t got $hit” PM me if you want me phone number I will send it to you so we can talk. Here is the link.

Man that car looks great. I really like the hide away head light look. I have wanted to figure out a way to get that type of set up on a first gen firebird but I have not had the time and I doesn’t help what I have no talent either. I was thinking maybe I could modify one off a RS Camaro or a GTO. It was nice talking to you Bruce and good luck with your project it should be a real head turner when it’s done. Steve

Thanks Dan Normaly I would slam a guy from chicago about how the Bears suck but I have to keep my mouth shut after What the Packers where like last season. I think it will be a long trip back for them but the Bears look like they are moving I the right direction.
