      What's the difference?

What's the difference between a short water pump and a long water pump. (beside the sizes) and under what circumstances would you use either one. My question is because I am running the front runner system (with the short water pump) and I need to buy a new timing cover. Do I need to be aware of anything when shopping for one?

      Thanks!

It's the "depth" of the water pump as measured from where it mounts to the block to the plate on the shaft where the fan is bolted to. If memory serves me correct SB short is 5 5/8", SB long is 5 3/4", BB short is 7" and BB long is 7 1/4". I can't see how a timing cover could interfer with a short pump unless you were using a gear drive or something but let one of the more experienced GM guys answer.
