      rear diff width

      does anyone know if the diff width is the same as a 70 camaro to a 69 camaro?

      no,a 69 is narrower.i dont remember by how much thou.seems like 2-3 inchs.

      1970 up is one inch wider, but the perches are 1 inch farther apart too, so it wont bolt right in without moving the perches. I doubt the 1" is a big deal but it depends on your wheel offsets.

      how can I distinguish a 1st gen camaro diff? will a 69 firebird diff be the same?

      Firebirds used bolt on retainers on the axles, Camaros used C clips. Grab an axle and if non-posi, it will have a lot of end play on a C clip axle.

      I'm running a 2nd gen/8.5" Camaro rear in my 68. We moved the perches and haven't had a problem since then. I run 15x8 Weld's with 5.5" b/s with no problems. I also run the std 15x8 with 4.5" backspace....both wheels look fine.
